Review: works well - Just what was needed
Review: Not bad, but has its limitations... - Bought this to make drilling a complex pattern of small holes easier. I have centrally mounted it on my Bosch PDB40 pillar drill’s table and the effective 175mm x 50mm work area is perfect for my needs (note, X-travel is only 175mm on mine, not 180mm as spec’d). The castings appear to be of a decent quality and finish and the overall flatness of the aluminium tabletop dials in at +/- 0.5mm so no issues there, and the round rails and linear bearings on both axes are freely moving with little discernable play. The handles on the two positioning wheels come unattached but are easily fitted with a screwdriver; they freely rotate on the fitting bolt and have a nice taper and feel to them. A nice touch are the locking bolts on each axis which bear-down on their respective round rails, but the knobs are too small and there is little room to get a purchase on them – I will be swapping them out for Allen-key headed bolts and a T-handled key. So far, so good. Now the real issue – the backlash on both-movements is about a fifth of a turn of the positioning wheel, which isn’t too bad, however that is of little consequence because, unlike other examples of similar XY tables on desertcart, there is no calibration on either wheel. The X thread is 58.5 turns for 175mm, or 3mm pitch, while the Y thread is 16 turns for 50mm, or 3.125mm pitch (probably 8tpi in reality). The X-axis has a linear scale of sorts in a slot on the side of the table calibrated in mm with a pointer on the fixed casting below but the scale can be easily moved in its slot, so no use for any precision. The Y-axis has no calibration at all. This is a big limitation, exacerbated in my case by the fact that the drill’s table is aluminium so there is nowhere to stick a magnetic base for a dial gauge. I’m going to fit a cheap 2-axis DRO to the table (50mm + 200mm scales) as this is a permanent addition.

Bought this to make drilling a complex pattern of small holes easier. Travel on both axis very smooth.Very good when used with bench drill. I am going to build structure for a hand router over it. It will be good to use the table for precision mortise and tenon making,letting the table do the work. 😊👍
