Battle Maps of the American Revolution (3) (Maps from the American Battlefield Trust)

Revolutionary map-reading at its finest!
This is an exceptional book of Revolutionary War battle maps. A treasure trove of approximately 67 battle-movement and site visuals, it helps bring to life the action involved in the American Revolution’s most famous battles. Accompanying the maps are about 41 essays that give a fair overview of the maneuvers and main strategies involved. In more than a few cases, however, the essays leave it to the reader to follow on the maps all the often intricate battlefield moves George Washington and his generals took in both victory and defeat. So a degree of historical familiarity helps. As there is at this time no “Look inside” available, here is the Table of Contents:Forward, What Goes into Make a “New” Map, Introduction, (Battles of…), Lexington & Concord, Fort Ticonderoga, Bunker Hill, Boston (Siege), Great Bridge, Quebec, Sullivan’s Island, The Northern Strategy (1776-1777), (Battles of…), Brooklyn, White Plains, Forts Washington and Lee, First Trenton, Second Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Hubbardton, Fort Ann, Oriskany, Bennington, Saratoga (Freeman’s Farm), Germantown, Saratoga (Bemis Heights), Monmouth, Fort Vincennes (Siege), Newtown, The Southern Strategy (1778-1781), (Battles of…), Kettle Creek, Savannah (Siege), Charleston (Siege), Waxhaws (Buford’s Massacre), Hanging Rock, Camden, Kings Mountain, Cowpens, Pensacola (Siege), Hobkirk’s Hill, Ninety Six (Siege), Green Spring, Eutaw Springs, Yorktown (Siege), (Appendices…), Glossary of Terms, Liberty Trail, Short History of Battle Preservation Movement, Project TeamAs the book has no footnotes, endnotes, or bibliography, readers will have to rely on American Battlefield Trust’s reputation for excellent research. Unfortunately, some may wonder about accuracy after confronting typos that escaped and evaded proofing. Hopefully, a future update will remedy this very minor problem.Overall, ABT’s admirable effort has resulted in a eminently readable book and welcome addition to any Revolutionary War library. First Rate Maps
The series of maps by this organization is first rate. In this volume I learned about battles which took place that I never heard before. It is a good place to learn about this type of history. Maps are key to understanding what took place. Any person interested in American History would benefit from this volume & two other volumes centered on the US Civil War.
