I was headed fishing the next day so I just tucked the sliver (it didn't detach) into the tip with the rest of the butt and went fishing! Excellent light action and the guides are nice and slick. I didn't return it as it worked so well even with the sliver, and after fishing season I contacted Lamiglas who told me there was a service fee and shipping fee to send it in for warranty.
