This model however overcame the shortcomings of the ones I did not like. This review is honest, like my last one, and based on a mixture of quality vs price.Second, these are cheap shelving units. The price is low, the quality is low, the looks are not excellent, and the expectations were even lower since I had purchased Edsal shelves before with bad results. These units overcame the shortcomings by including one simple components, a joinder to be used to hold the vertical support beams together. In a review I made for another model that was my complaint. To quote myself, I put:"Lets start with the design. Any good shelf builder will know that the sides of this style of shelf should be firm against the cross-bars, thick to support the weight, and one solid piece to provide support and also support the weight. This has NONE of these....the cross-bars barely fitting snug in each two piece segment of thin metal. In fact, MOST of the problems that this has could be resolved by fixing only one of any of these three issues. If the support was thick then I would not be afraid that the top section will drop to the floor, hurting my children let alone myself. Or you could alternatively make the crossbars hold the pieces snug, thus alleviating that same concern and provide a solid feel to the shelves. Or you could also make the support beams one solid piece, alleviating all of the same concerns. But no, instead they opted for thin metal that the cross-beams sit loosely in on a two segment piece for each side.I was able to overcome this weakness by ordering two of these shelving units (which was planned for two different areas, but plans changed due to the problems) and bolted them together, then to the wall. If not for having the extra support I would NOT use this shelf.Now, even with my changes I only put light material on the top half of the unit, praying that it does not slip. Now I must add in the concern for the particle board....the sheets so thin that nearly any weight over a child's backpack could break it. Once everything is assembled all of the pieces support each other more, but not enough for me to trust this with anything of substance, let alone two tons each. But since you need one shelf in the middle to join the top an bottom section you are stuck with a minimum of requiring one top, bottom, and middle shelf that are not adjustable. Ok, that would be fine if the support was quality. However since they are not you must put the shelves in the middle, maybe up or down one or two notches MAXIMUM in order to have the support for the rest of the unit."This model however had a joinder that covered the problems I had encountered. Additionally, this one is a little larger and uses metal instead of wood for the shelf components.Third, I did have a problem. I ordered two units and only received the joinders for one and a half. I contacted Edsal and they sent me the missing pieces without any issues. I built the units, and like my former purchase I bolted them together. This time though they are not bolted to the wall. they are stable, and I do not fear that the top will collapse. The material is mostly the same, the construction style is exactly the same. WE HAD SOME ISSUES THAT WILL BE EXPLAINED LATER! AFTER GETTING ISSUES RESOLVED THE UNIT WAS PUT TOGETHER IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES. WE PURCHASED A SECOND UNIT AND IT WAS ASSEMBLED IN ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES.PROS ARE FAIRLY EASY TO ASSEMBLE BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MALLET! IF NOT BUY ONE AS IT MAKES A BETTER MORE SECURE INSTALLATION WITHOUT DAMAGING THE CROSS BARS OR RISERS. FAIRLY STABLE AND MORE SO IF YOU PLACE SOME OF YOUR HEAVIER LOADS ON THE BOTTOM SHELF. THEY SHOULD GO ON SNUG AND WITH A FEW SMACKS OF THE MALLET THEY WILL SEAT FINE.SECOND CON, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER. WHEN WE RECEIVED THE FIRST SET AND DURING INSTALLATION WE HAD TWO RISERS BEND IN THE MIDDLE. OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT. COULD NOT REMOVE THE COUPLING AS THEY WERE TOO TIGHT. AMAZON AGREED TO REPLACE AND PICK UP THE FIRST SET. PROBLEM IS THIS, IF YOU DO SHIP BACK WITH AMAZON KNOW THAT UPS WILL BE PICKING UP BEFORE YOU RECEIVE THE REPLACEMENT. I EXPLAINED WHAT HAD OCCURRED WITH THE BENT RISERS AND WITHIN DAYS EDSAL HAD SHIPPED NEW RISERS AND NEW COUPLINGS AS WARRANTY! PUT THE UNIT TOGETHER WITH THE INFORMATION FROM THE INSTALLATION REVIEW VERY QUICKLY. WE RECEIVED THE SECOND SET AND DECIDED TO INSTALL IT WENT QUICKLY AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
