Product description A DVD of a pioneer woman in American mathematics, and her contribution to an important Hilbert problem. Review Robinson's story is told with affection and respect, backed by a wide array of archival footage, stills, and recordings, as well as recollections from other mathematicians, and―especially―reminiscences by her sister Constance Reid (author of a biography on Robinson), who provides a warm personal touch. ―F. Swietek, Video Librarian, July 2008This movie contains a portrait of Julia Robinson, a mathematician widely recognized for her contribution to the solution of Hilbert's tenth problem. Together with her life story, it explains the history and principles of this outstanding result.―EMS Newsletter, December 2009 P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); About the Author Julia Robinson and Hilberts Tenth Problem was made possible by a grant from Margaret and Will Hearst, and by generous support from the Clay Mathematics Institute. The story of Julia Robinson is well written and a page turner. If you are a girl or woman and you excel in math you need to read the story of Julia. She paved the way for others. Learn her story and never give up.

I'm possibly biased because I know several of the people in this film. It's an interesting study of a female mathematician who was very successful (McCarther award, president of the AMS, ...) which presents her human side.
