PEARL Men Shaving Double Edge Safety Razor (Shd-27 Antique Brass)

I am a shaving Connoisseur and believe in making the early morning sleepy, dull and often painful chore of shaving in to an exciting one and kick start the day on a confident high note. I indulge myself in traditional wet shaving with a safety razor (just like my father and grand father used to), a perfumed shave soap or a scented cream and a luxurious natural or synthetic bristle designer shave brush. So far companies in Europe and USA were popular for high quality shaving tools such as safety razors, albeit very expensive. Pearl shaving razor amazed me with the quality of materials (it is made of solid brass handle coated with thick layer of chrome making it look very solid and stunning).Unlike Western razors which are made of cheap weight hollow zinc alloy (Zamack, pot metal) handles and thin chrome finish which will corrode in a few years. The razor handle weight is enough for a clean and smooth shave with zero pressure needed. Pearl Safety razor, Brush and kit are definitely made of better material and better finish than western razors at one third the cost.It makes me proud as its "Made in India" The design, build quality, finish and shave quality equals and also exceeds to popular western brands like edwin jagger, merkur, Muhle and other niche shaving tools companies which make zinc alloy based cheap razors at exorbitant rates. The price for this razor is unbelievable and is value for money compared to International razor brands. This razor will shave just as same with superior quality of materials, design and finish and stay the same for decades without loosing its shine or breaking. In fact if it falls and hits the sink, I am afraid the ceramic sink will crack or break !! I would encourage readers to give up the cheap plastic 3-4-5 blade gimmicks called shaving systems by leading companies who charge a bomb for blades while still giving unsatisfactory mediocre shaves with blade refills burning a huge hole in the pocket. Its time to take to traditional wet shave with a kit from Pearl Shaving which will not only be a looker, but the cost of shaving blades will be ridiculously low. One can throw away a double edge blade in 4-5 shaves and not burn a hole in the pocket. This particular brass chrome knurled razor is a really treat for the eyes as well as smooth on the skin. The set is solid brass metal with a rich chrome plating. The handle is not hollow which gives it a lot of weight. The etching on the handle gives a super non-slip grip and looks very cool and designer. The machine work on the design is flawless and edges are smooth and not sharp. While the grip is fantastic, don't drop the razor on the sink, the sink will be the loosing party here !

Reviewing the the product after 6 months of use. This razor is my first experience of using double edge safety razor. I'm part of generation which is bought up on cartridge based razor(mostly gillette products) and shifted to electric razor for few years. But recently, I had problems with shave bumps with electric as well mach 3 razor. Doing some research, I thought i might give the old style razor a try as it was suggested these don't shave too close to the skin. Anyway, long story short I bought this after being overwhelmed by number of brands and different types available as this one is good for beginners. After I got this,i saw couple of videos online to get the technique part right. Couple of helpful pointer for beginners: 1. It may sound dumb but most importantly comb side of bottom half of blade cover should be facing you when you put the blade and tighten it. It's easy to miss this if you aren't paying attention as blade cover get tightened in reverse also. Lol, its so funny my first shave was very good. However, second time shave was nothing like it. I thought it must be the blade,it got blunt after single use but with new blade also, i could not shave properly and with many shave passes also I managed was stubble. Third time also same thing happened. So i put the shaver away for many months thinking its crap. Then one day I again thought of giving it a try and again it was very good. So i started using it regularly but however to my surprise on same days it was total crap while other days it was good. I just kept thinking maybe the blades are of inconsistent quality or maybe there is correct tension to tighten the blade which I get right randomly. Only recently I realised on bad days I was putting the shave head cover backward. I saw couple of reviews mentioning same thing that all they could manage was a stubble maybe they're also making same mistake. 2. Blades don't matter much. Good ol cheap Wilkinson's or supermax provide decent shave and they're so cheap you could just discard them after one shave or twice. I tried feather ones too seeing there hype but almost 5 times the premium is not at all justified. Maybe it makes a difference in more aggressive shavers but not this one. 3. Use short shaving strokes. This is big difference from cartridge where you could whole of face in one stroke. I'm happy my skin problems are now minimized with this. Overall, I would say cartridge based razor like gillette mach 3 still shave better, more easy and chance of nicks is less but replacement blades costs a bomb. This one is cheap, provide good shaving experience and can help minimize skin problems if you are facing. Very good razor, but it is a bit on the agressive side. The key is to ensure that you apply zero pressure, only let the weight of the razor do the job. If the shave is not close enough, just repeat with one more pass. Very good quality construction.

I received this razor today and thought I'd write my review while the experience is still fresh. I was a bit weary of buying this product coz it's not returnable, but then I took a risk with ₹ 649. I say risk coz I had read some rather negative reviews and others though not negative, said this was a rather aggressive shave angle razor. Even before opening the package, I was quite pleased with the weight and the snug packing of the product. Inside, I found the product neatly laid out in a tray which included a 5 pack of blades. Assembly was pretty straightforward and as I was putting it together, i couldn't help but notice the quality and fine craftmanship of each piece. That's when I found out that the material is Chrome on Brass. Now if you've read reviews of other razors costing almost twice as much, you know they break easily if dropped even from a short height. I don't think that'll happen to this razor. I was cautious as I began to shave but as I went ahead my confidence grew. The perfect weight of the razor helps in a big way to get smooth and even strokes. By the time I was done I realised 2 more remarkable benefits. 1. The unique pattern on the handle gives a tacky grip to my fingers which won't let the razor slip even if I had wet or soapy hands. I don't know if you visually like the pattern on the handle but it really works. 2. The shave itself was so good that I could not believe myself. Not a single nick or cut, and normally I don't even use a double edge. My regular razors are Gillette Fusion plain, with battery and with some sort of pivot ball gizmo. They're costly and so are the blades. But with this razor I got the best shave in years, even better than the Barber if I can say so myself. So all the reviewers who got a bad or aggressive shave are obviously doing something wrong. Now, to be fair this product has 2 areas for improvement. 1. The tray packaging should come with a transparent cover for storage after use. 2. They could include a travel pouch for the product even if they have to charge extra for the product with the pouch. In summary, this razor is by far one of the best quality products I've used in a long time and is definitely as good if not better that other domestic and international brands that cost anywhere between 2 to 5 times more. So if you are about to start wet shaving or just looking for another razor, you can't go wrong with the Pearl SHD-24

Not as expected.

I am using similar razor from 15+ years and well used to this type of shaving style.No doubts this is the best way of shaving. However this razor doesnt give a clean shave..it leaves few hairs half cut.. you would have to move razor repeatedly at same place to get a clean shave. Its looks are good but for me it fails at the primary task and the comfort of shaving.

Quality is ok but is very expensive there are many products available in online with same quality for much cheaper price

A good razor. It's really a safety razor. The head is very smooth and weighty. The handle is long enough to get a smooth shaving. The handle is also weighty. This weight is needed to get a safe shaving. It seems it's made of brass. I used many razors before. After a short period they became rusty. All that razors gave me a rough shaving and sometimes some cuts and scratches on my face. I am completely satisfied in this safety razor. Its head is wonderful. It gives me a smooth and soft shaving without leaving any cuts or scratches on my face. Very good razor for daily shaving. Very strong materials are brittle. So it should be kept from falling on floor. Handle with care. It seems long lasting if it is used with care.
