It will work with any streaming software, this just helps you capture an external video source that you can add to your streams. As for OBS vs Streamlabs, OBS Studio is the original software and more up-to-date with the latest features from the original devs. However, it requires somewhat more manual setup and tweaking. Streamlabs is OBS in a more user friendly wrapper. The downside is that lacks features that the latest version of OBS Studio has, and if you need to adjust certain advanced settings sometimes they just aren't available. **Q: Will this work with a cable stb?** A: no it has copy protection detection and it is aggressive (wont even capture an ipad pro screen share w/o a device in the middle to strip the copy protection flags) **Q: Do i need any software like obs to record or does the device automatically record into my laptops ssd?** A: Yes, you will need to use something like OBS to record or stream.
