"Ella Enchanted" is funny and satisfies your craving for cheesy fairytale movies
The flavoring of this movie is akin to "The Princess Bride" and the "Shrek" films. It has many of the fairytale aspects you would want: a young woman who is under a spell, a prince, an evil king, and fairy tale creatures such as dwarves and fairies. Like "The Princess Bride" and the "Shrek" films, "Ella Enchanted" sort of makes fun of the concept of the fairytale. When Prince Charmont meets no-nonsense Ella and tells her, "You are the first girl I've met who hasn't swooned at the sight of me," she replies with, "Well, then maybe I've done you some good."Everyone will love Anne Hathaway's Ella character, who is not your typical fairytale woman. She's strong, knows what she wants, and knows how to get it. You immediately want to root for her, and long for her horrible stepmother and two stepsisters to have a taste of their own medicine.I wasn't sure if I'd like this movie or not, but I found it great fun to follow along as Ella searches for the fairy who gave her a gift that Ella desperately wants the fairy to take back.

Fun movie that should be more well known (minor spoilers)
I had a friend tell me about this movie a while ago, I had never heard of it, which is a shame because I really enjoyed it when I got around to checking it out. I don't know how this one got past me considering it has an excellent cast and a really fun theme.Ella Enchanted is a modernized Fantasy mash-up with plenty of fun, song, and some interesting re-imaginings of classic fantasy tropes, characters, and relationships. Think Princess Diaries set in a Fantastic setting. This movie has a lot of fun with modern themes by realizing them in the fantasy setting, such as an open air mall with working wooden escalators. It also uses the fantasy setting as a lens to provide some minor social and political commentary, but more for fun than to preach. It's a quirky story with lots of unexpected twists on character types that when combined yield unusual and unexpected resolutions to classic problems. It's a fun and different fantasy tale well worth checking out.

A NEW CLASSIC
I purhased Ella on DVD after my girls started watching it daily. My kids have limits on their TV time, and one movie takes up most of their daily allotment. I know a movie's a hit when my kids would rather watch it than tune into Nickelodean or the Disney channel. This movie will be one of our classics. I'll put it away for a while and every so often the kids will pull it out and watch it every day for a few days then back it will go until the next time.Ella Enchanted is a new fairy tale that deals with human and civil rights issues in ways children can understand and still be entertained by. The storyline and narration are great, even for kids with short attention spans.Since ordering the movie, I've also purchased the CD and book. I highly recommend this fun movie.

Great FAMILY movie!
I love this movie. I love, love, love, love, love this movie! It's a great take on the story with many heart-stopping, gut-wrenching, and laugh 'til you almost can't breathe.WARNING: EXTREME SARCASM FROM ANNE HATHAWAY AND OTHERS BUT ESPECIALLY ANNE!!WARNING #2: A few kisses shared, but nothing major. It's a great movie for a family..no language that I've heard in the billions of times I've watched it. And I know there isn't any sexual or mature themes in it. Great FAMILY movie.

Entertaining family-friendly movie
Ella Enchanted is one of several movies that Hollywood put out in the "Cinderella" vein, but it stands out as one of the better ones. Anne Hathaway (of The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, and the upcoming Get Smart) delivers a lovable, cute, and funny performance as a girl cursed at birth by an inept fairy godmother (Vivica A. Fox) to always do what she is told, to hilarious results. When she is left in the care of an evil stepmother and two scheming stepsisters, her life seems hopeless, until she meets the king-to-be of the land (Hugh Dancy), who at first annoys her, but soon grows on her, prompting her to seek out the fairy godmother who cursed her so she can have a normal life. Will Ella find her godmother in time? Will she find love? I won't reveal the answers, but you'll have fun finding out while watching this wonderful movie.

Such a great movie! I love a tiny chick flick where the princess *so* doesn’t need to be rescued! Yay for strong, smart women who make excellent life partners!! And the music is so fun!
