60 Civil War-Era Fashion Patterns (Dover Fashion and Costumes)

I love Civil War era clothes, so I was stoked to add this to my collection. It is a decent book, and came in perfect condition. However, the instructions are limited. This is not for the faint of heart or a newbie. The patterns are more conceptual than actual patterns and will need a lot of drafting and altering to fit a modern individual. The plates and the diagrams are well put together. It will be challenging, but fun to figure out eventually. I love this type of book in general, I have a couple of the Victorian books like this.

I bought this for my mother for her birthday.She said, "It was more than expected. Has modern day measurements, not vintage 1/8in "nail" measurements. Nice variety of patterns for adult and children."She said she almost never gives 5 stars so give it 4. I asked her why, why not, debated it with her, I said if it is good enough, give 5. She thought, said give 5.

This book has very nice designs for women, girls and boys. You must have a fairly sophisticated knowledge, however, of sewing and construction techniques, as the book only presents the pattern pieces and no instructions for their completion. Also, you must enlarge the patterns. As I make dolls, the patterns were perfect for my smaller dolls, and enlarging them a bit wasn't difficult. To enlarge them to people size would take considerably more skill! All in all, a useful reference and practical guide.

This book will help me as I teach about period pieces. Thank you.

I travel from year to year and lose patterns. This way they are always here in a book that is easy to access. It has directions and photos that make it easy to follow. it is the second book I've bought. My daughter used and kept the first one. We both make Civil War era dresses and find this one easy to adjust a pattern from.

This book, while decent in it's overall construction and layout is not the resource I was hoping it to be.If you are looking for patterns regarding upper class women's and children's garments this may be resourceful to you. I however was hoping for more men's patterns based on the discription (there is only 1 "men's garment" included in this book and it's a cap).I ended up returning this book because it did not offer what it had advertised and I didn't need the upper class patterns it did bring to the table.

Questo piccolo volume contiene una serie di modelli in scala relativi al periodo della guerra di Secessione americana. Lo sconsiglio a chi non possiede basi di modellistica e/o alle principianti in quanto i cartamodelli non sono pronti all'uso e devono essere riprodotti in base alle proprie misure.

Endlich mal ein Buch das auch Schnittmuster für Kinder bzw.Jungen enthält! Man sieht das fertige Produkt und dann sind die Schnittmuster gleich angefügt! Und die passende Jahreszahl ist auch dabei! Ein tolles Buch das mir sehr weiterhilft!

God help me if I ever decide to make one of these outfits. Beautiful as the are I think they are a bit beyond me..
