Batman Beyond (2015-2016) Vol. 2

A Worthy Continuation of a Fantastic Book
I absolutely loved vol 1 Brave New Worlds, and this book is just as good. The writing opens up Tim's current situation more on a personal level this time around, expanding on his relationships with Commissioner Barbara Gordon and Matt McGinnis. It also presents a more realistic scenario in that, with Brother Eye gone, people are starting to fight each other in Gotham. Meanwhile, Matt, having salvaged John Stewart's Green Lantern ring, goes on a quest to find it's source in Metropolis.Ultimately, this is a great book. If you're just starting reading this title, start with vol. 1, because it's just so amazing, but you can start here as well. It brings a lot more hope in a world devoid of it, and is far more uplifting than Futures End.Happy reading!!!

batman beyond vol. 2
i thought it was shock when tim became the new batman beyond THE WAR IS OVER.RECONSTRUCTION BEGINS...He won the fight of his life, but Tim Drake is still a man lost in time. Thanks to the sacrifices of countless heroes, he was able to free Earth from the cybernetic menace of Brother Eye. And with Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis gone, the mantle of the Batman is his. Stranded in a strange future, he must defend Neo-Gotham as it becomes a magnet for refugees from the rest of the devastated world. As tensions rise and blood is shed, this new Batman has an even more urgent mission. With the last Green Lantern’s power ring, Terry’s brother Matt has set off for the ruins of the once-great city of Metropolis, hoping to use the ring’s power to unlock the forces of justice once more. But Batman must track him down before he unwittingly unleashes a new evil upon an already devastated world! Is this the dawn of a new Justice League, or the end of the world as we know it?

Trying to right the Batman Beyond ship after hitting the Future's End iceberg.
This was OK. There's a big time jump between volumes. Last volume ended with the defeat of Brother Eye. Now we've rebuilt Gotham and the rest of the world isn't quite as dead as we thought as refugees are flooding in. There are whole issues devoted to sharing resources. It gets pretty boring. It feels like Jurgens is trying to restore the Batman Beyond continuity after the Future's End nonsense. Turns out the Justice League didn't really get turned into murderous cyborg zombies, that was all an illusion. This felt really half-assed. There also appears to be some kind of Kommandi tie-in. Tuftan is established as one of the human animal hybrids created by Splice.Bernard Chang's art is pretty good. However, he continues to do these "reverse negative" panels that are white with orange or red backgrounds. I find them off-putting and confusing because I can never understand why Chang put them in.

Could have been made clearer
This is New 52 Batman Beyond with Tim Drake as Batman not Terry McGinnis. It could have been made clearer on the page, especially seeing as Volume 1 of Rebirth has the exact same 3 writers and illustrators as Volume 2 of New 52.
