There absolutely is a light on the power button that never shuts off unless you set it to the "sleep" setting which is so low its basically off.

Does this unit create ozone?

Hello, this air purifier will not create Ozone. Air purifier produces ozone is mainly because of ionizer and UV-C light. But to be Ozone-free, this Levoit Air Purifier is not an ionizer and does not use UV-C light. It is eco-friendly.

My hepa filter seems to be glued in!?

The HEPA filter is enclosed in a black plastic case with the charcoal filter at the front. You replace the HEPA and charcoal filter as one unit. It should just pop out. The black, foam pre-filter, closest to the rear of the unit, can be removed from the HEPA "block" for cleaning or replacement.
