I use some hairspray on my foot - light spray to improve duration of stick. The pad works okay - takes pressure off metatarsal area. The pad is quite flattened after 16 hours of wear, using it a second day was not an option, it had no substantial support left. I recommend them for metatarsalgia granted you also improve your footwear to complement the pad. I'm getting bunions (on both sides--who knew the pinkie could also get a bunion?) and the head of my metatarsal has started striking the ground.I tried a lot of things, like OTC pads and inserts, and orthotic shoes. I went to a podiatrist and got the stupidly expensive inserts, and they helped, but not enough.THESE DO. I mean, I use them WITH orthotics, but they are giving my foot that extra lift that is needed to get me off the owed bones and let me walk in relative comfort. They stick well for a couple of days (I take them off to shower and then reapply a few times) so a set of 6 lasts several weeks.It took a few weeks for the bruised bone to quit hurting after I quit smooshing it onto the ground, but I am a fan for life at this point. This slight anomaly causes my foot to balance poorly at the ball of my foot because the middle of the foot hits the ground before the outer edge and does not balance well in the proper tripod of foot balance. This causes a callus to form in the middle of the ball of my foot, discomfort and pain while I walk, and contributes to Morton's Neuroma formation, which can cause numbness and pain in the smaller toes and just under them. The best advice I had gotten from a podiatrist to address all this is to use "met cookies" like these, in my shoes, along with arch supporting insoles. (I use Superfeet green insoles in all of my shoes and slippers.) It's easier to use this product with insoles than without, because you can more easily place the pad where it needs to be, outside the shoe. I take my insole out, place the pad on it with the backing still on it, and carefully place my bare foot over it, adjusting placement as necessary. Once I know where I want it, I mark it on the insole, so I can stick it on the spot accurately. Once it's stuck to the insole, I can put the insole into the shoe and it's good to go.It feels a little weird to have this under your foot at first, but the aforementioned problems are definitely helped, so it's worth the weird feeling of something under your foot all day. I still get the callus, but the nerve nodules that started forming went away with regular use of this product in all of my daily wear shoes and slippers. I know that I am doing everything I can to deal with this congenital foot issue.My only complaint is that the adhesive is so good that it's difficult to peel the paper away. When I use my fingernail to try to catch the edge, (which I still try every single time I replace these) I just end up peeling paper layers off, and not getting to the adhesive layer. I get around this by using an Exacto knife (or scissor blade) to drag a big cut through the middle of the backing and then bend out at the cut to get the paper peel started. It's a little frustrating, but I have made this work.With regular use, these do wear out eventually, as they are made of felt and can flatten over time, so it's good to get a nice value pack like this.
