I HAVE THE POWER!!!!
I've purchased many knives of all sorts throughout my life. In the kitchen, I tried from cheap to well known, expensive name brands. But they were always for functional use, basic kitchen tools. I would get my new knife, check it out, sharpen further, then get to work. No big deal. Until today, that is. I was tired of my dinky 7" typical cleavers of the past. I needed (more wanted) a larger manlier cleaver. Upon much research I ordered "The Raveger". Today it was delivered Clearly, this was not a typical kitchen tool. The packaging was large and in charge. Very well done & increased my anticipation. I opened the box & was overwhelmed. Impressive in size, weight, feel in hand & build quality. I've never been so happy & excited to use a new knife, much less in the kitchen. Wielding "The Raveger" for the first time made me feel like a Master of the Universe. It's that good. This cleaver is so awesome, my existing knives are no longer worthy. Dalstrong quality is at such a level, my existing knives look & feel inferior. I will be replacing all my kitchen knives to Dalstrong. In addition to adding more specialty kitchen knives not yet in my arsenal. Based on my years of experience of buying & working with various "high end" cutlery brands, and now handling my new HE-MAN cleaver. I have determined, if you don't buy a Dalstrong, you're wasting your money.

The most used knife in my kitchen!
I purchased this cleaver five years ago to supplement the eight Zwilling Henckels knives I had acquired over the years, mainly with the intention of using it to cut through chicken bones. It has since become the most-used knife in my collection, and I now understand why 7” cleavers are the only knives most Chinese chefs use in their kitchens. It won’t replace a paring knife, but it will make short work of slicing meats as well as breaking down poultry and dicing or mincing all manner of vegetables and herbs. The wide blade really facilitates moving chopped veggies into a pan or wok, and also works great for flattening veal and chicken filets. The cleaver is well balanced and very comfortable to hold with a pinch grip over the full tang for extended periods. I sharpen it with a whetstone and leather strop every few months along with the rest of my knives and the German high-carbon steel holds an edge very well, and after five years the blade has never yet chipped or rusted (I always hand wash and dry after use). In short I highly recommend this attractively priced cleaver, especially if you can’t currently afford a high quality set of more specialized knives.

Extremely Well Crafted Knife
When I received my DALSTRONG knife, the first thing I noticed was the high quality the packaging. The box was extremely well made and the fit and finish was perfect. The inner box was wrapped by an outer sleeve, and it took some work to slide the box out. The knife box was very well crafted, which is rare these days. Most companies would skimp on the packaging, but you can tell that DALSTRONG feels very strongly about the quality of anything with their name on it. That says a lot, people. Upon opening the box, I was impressed that my Gladiator Series Cleaver was firmly secured in a rubberized form contained within the box. The knife was also secured within a protective sheath. I removed the knife from said sheath and was impressed with the shine and beautiful finish on the knife. The knife is very well made and heavy. No cheap, poor quality Chinese steel here. The blade was razor sharp, with a near mirror finish, and the well crafted handle felt good in my hand. Very balanced. I have very large hands, but this knife felt very substantive and comfortable.I couldn't wait to use it. I normally use standard chef's knives and not a large cleaver. I will use this knife primarily for chopping vegetables and splitting chicken. We eat a lot of vegetables with every meal, and I separate or split whole chickens 2-3 times a week, so it will get used almost daily. This was my first DALSTRONG purchase. I separated two whole chickens and diced mirepoix and some potatoes with ease. The knife did all the work and it made quick work of the chicken and vegetables. I cleaned the knife with hot water and soap and quickly dried it and placed it back in it's sheath and box, which fits nicely into my cutlery drawer. I'm very particular about my tools and keep everything from my shoes to my car in excellent condition. DALSTRONG makes it easy to store and keep an edge on this knife with their packaging. I am not a professional chef, but I know my way around the kitchen and will use this knife to prepare meals for my family. I would highly recommend this knife and I certainly will be buying more products from DALSTRONG. I can see that this knife will easily last many, many years. I'm big on quality cutlery and couldn't be happier. This type of quality would be a value at twice the price.

Fantastic product
This cleaver arrived ahead of time (during the Holiday time)!! The packaging is attractive and study. The cleaver is of very high quality and workmanship. Once unpacked, I washed it and started to take it for a test run. This is a well balanced, well made item. A bit heavy, but this was an advantage for cutting up and coring apples. I will be trying it out on butternut squash later. The balance is good, slightly handle-heavy, but in no way was this a problem. I zoomed through the apples and went on to carrots. No issues at all. I have never used a cleaver before, so I am going to have to develop my technique. Even so, chopping the carrots was intuitive. The cleaver was very sharp out of the box, but I always hone any new blade. Very, very sharp as shipped. The honing did not help much, so I know they did a fantastic job at the factory. I am very satisfied with this purchase. The only issue I have, and that is a very small one, is that it seems a little heavy. I have no doubt that I could cut through chicken bones with no problem. Heavier than my current chef's knife, but not unduly so. With practice and more use, I will get use to it. This is a great item. Dalstrong created a winner!

Good craftsmanship overall for the home kitchen.
First impression is as follows. I like the knife it feels great in the hand. Its blade heavy as expected just due to the nature of the knife. When I first got the package there seemed to be water damage inside the package wrapping. I was slightly worried the knife might have recieved some form of damage due to the water. Once I opened the package I was quite happy with the sight I saw the knife was flawless from a distance. Specially in it's nice bpa free sheath. Pull it out of the sheath and inspect the blade it looks pretty nice great finish the edge is nice and sharp it looks as though its ground to 16 degrees one side and a bit less on the other. During my further inspection I believe I might have a small crack in the blade. For me not a terrible deal but for a kitchen or a shop this might not work with that type of heavy use. Packaging includes; 1. Knife 1. sheath 1. Shirt pin 1. Care booklet

First Impressions
Hello everyone, I just received this beautiful hunk of German steel in the mail! First Impressions: very nicely packaged, worthy of gifting. The cleaver seems well made, fit and finish are good except the wood on either side of handle don't perfectly align, meaning if blade is resting on cutting board and you look straight down at top of handle the right side wood of handle goes toward blade maybe a millimeter further than left. No big deal for me just worth noting. I don't see any gaps between wood of handle and metal which is a good thing. Today I made a butternut squash soup and using this cleaver to break down the squash was way easier than using my chef knife. I basically purchased this cleaver to use like a very large nakiri vegetable knife for large produce; think whole heads of cabbage and the butternut squash I just mentioned. The cleaver seems sharp but not as sharp as say a Japanese chef knife but it's a trade off here, this is a very robust blade and you need an edge that holds up to very heavy use without the very annoying "chipping" phenomenon that plagues some razor blade edge chefs knives. This cleaver appears like it should not have that problem. The spine of the blade is squard and not rounded so pinch grip is not as comfortable and the edges of spine and fairly sharp. I don't mind in this case I do use the back of the spine for scraping so for me it works to have a slightly sharp edge, plus you don't risk dulling your edge prematurely. Overall I am very happy with this Cleaver it performed well for my intended use of it. I did not receive this item free in exchange for review, however I did purchasen this cleaver of a lightning deal for a reduced price. Thanks for puttingmup with my ramblings if you've made it this far. I will update this review as I use it more.

Dalstrong - A cut above the rest! - Yeah, I know it's cliche but it's true!!
I've wanted to replace my 20 year old knife set, but I didn't know which brand to choose - Henckels, Wustdorf, etc. But the prices were way out of my reach. I was able to purchase a Zwilling J.A. Henckels produce knife for a reasonable price on special sale. The performance though is just OK, good for softer veggies but not for any kind of root vegetable. Plus it required whetstone sharping right out of the box and then at least once a week. So I started looking further, reading reviews here on Amazon and I came upon the Dalstrong Gladiator series of knives. Seemed like a reasonable price, so I took a chance and I've never looked back! I started with the 8.5" Kiritsuki and 7" Nakiri and they arrived beautifully boxed - would make excellent gifts. The weight, heft, feel of the knives were way past my expectations and the balance was absolutely spot on for me and the included sheaves are a bonus. My sharpness test was to place the blade on both a firm and an very ripe tomato and use as little pressure as possible to see they could slice them without damage. Both came through with flying colors on both types of tomatoes, slicing them so thin you read newsprint through them! I've now purchased their 7" Cleaver, 6" Produce, 7" Serrated Chef, 4.5" Short Cleaver (love this one-so versatile), and the 7" Santuku knives to add to my set. Looking to add a few more to complete the set and I'm extremely happy with these knives and I've highly recommended them to my friends.

Outstanding Quality in Every Way
An awesome tool. Stout handle shaped just right, very good balance. Very high quality packaging and an outstanding sheath with a tethered pin to hold it in place to protect the blade when stored. I have only had this tool for a couple of days, but I have been cutting large, hard vegetables with it such as turnips, rutebagas, large white Japanese radishes, large squash, melons and giant sweet potatoes. It really shines when cutting melons. Sharp and very well balanced, it just screams of quality. I have a few Wusthof and Henckels cleavers and two very extensive sets of high quality Wusthof and Henckels cutlery. The steel is superior to Sabatier blades that just lost their edge too quickly in my opinion. This is an outstanding value. Might be a bit tough to hone and resharpen this very large curved blade, but my Ken Onion belt sharpener has worked pretty well on a wide variety of blade shapes and profiles. An extremely capable tool at a great price.
