It blocks the sun well and provides a lot of shade with its 11 foot cover. The crank smoothly moved the umbrella up and down. The base has a handle and wheels to help move and adjust the umbrella. There's also a handy velcro tie that secures the umbrella when it's down. The instructions were a set of very small pictures which didn't make the nuances of assembly very clear and left assembly more protracted than necessary. The end result was well worth the pain. We didn't use the sand bladders provided, instead we put in four sealed bags of 50 lbs of play sand.
