That being said, I wanted to try the uni-ball because they are recommended by a French graphite artist whose work I admire. These uni-ball pencils are quite pleasurable to use, the dark end of the spectrum (2B up to 10B), are very dark and sharp, do not smudge easily, but take to blending the smoothest I have ever used. The light end must have a very high clay content - they are very light and useful for watercolor underdrawings, but I don't like them quite as well. Apparently, the HB designation is used outside the US, so perhaps all the pictures except the first are of the Japanese versions of the same pencils.
