Works as advertised.
As battery-powered motion/light sensor LED ceiling lights go, this one works fine. It's easy to figure out/install, and I think the 4 "D" cell configuration should help extend the service life between battery changes. The "button" that allows you to alternate between "darkness only" and "always active" settings isn't really a "button" at all. It's what tech geeks refer to as a "jumper" ... a little clip that fits on the ends of two steel conductor pins that poke out of the central guts of the light. When the clip is on, you're in "darkness only" mode, because the ambient light sensor is activated by the "jumper" connecting the two pins. When the clip is off and that connection is broken, the ambient light sensor is disabled, and the light will go on when it detects any motion, regardless of how much ambient light is present in the area of the light. I'm not so crazy about this function being controlled by a "jumper" ... IMHO, the user should be able to control this function with a permanent sliding switch or button ... rather than a tiny, removable part that's so easy to lose.I tried both "darkness only" and "always active" modes, and they both worked properly, and consistently. The light stays on for about 20 seconds after the last motion is detected, and there is no lag or reset time needed to re-activate it ... it will immediately go back on with detection of any new motion.I noted that a lot of reviewers think it's "nice and bright," but that perception will depend entirely on where you're installing it and how much light you need/want for the area. 300 lumens is not a whole lot of light ... the higher settings on most modern LED flashlights put out a lot more than that. By comparison, a typical 100-watt incandescent bulb puts out about 1,600 lumens, so if you're thinking this light is going to be adequate for an area you're used to having that much light in, you better keep looking for a brighter/larger alternative, e.g., one that's hard-wired into a household AC current source, and perhaps controlled by a remote mounted at the entrance to the room/area.All that stuff aside, I'm not disappointed with what I got. It's a nice light, and works as advertised.

This is a wonderful alternative for a ceiling light without the drilling, wiring, and installing a proper light fixture!
This is a wonderful alternative for a ceiling light without drilling, wiring, and installing a proper light fixture! It is definitely bright enough to light any area you'd want illuminated. Almost too bright; it might've benefited from a type of setting in terms of "dimability" or intensity. But, in any case, it will definitely provide at least enough light. The motion sensing is a neat factor as well as a sleep function, but if you aren't using it solely as a closet or a counter-type light – I meant to use this as a ceiling light to illuminate a dark corner during a party – it may be hit or miss in terms of keeping lit due to movement by people who are sitting eating and/or having a conversation under it. And if you plan on storing it when not in use, it is rather unnerving to have it full-on lit as you put it away because it takes 5+ minutes for the sleep function/no motion sensor to activate and turn the light off.Taking it apart was rather counter-intuitive. Under the unit, you have to shift and rotate a circular plate that doesn't feel & displace as if it should. Only after enough (more than you would initially estimate) force does it dislodge. Then there is an out-of-place screw (you can both unscrew with a driver and/or your own fingertips) that apparently holds the rest of the unit together, but it is still difficult to understand how. After all of this, you will find 4 slots for big D batteries for this to work. It is unfortunate, but maybe understandable, that the batteries are not included – even though, usually, items with specialized batteries usually include them. The only con I can think of adding is that, the lights, plus the big heavy D batteries (another annoyance to have to purchase separately to make this work), and the rest of the unit, all add onto weight that is considerably heavy! The makers advertise this as a ceiling light, but if you aren't to screw it (like I wanted to avoid), it actually takes a lot to affix it to the ceiling! Velcro for certain will not work, and you would have to get some of the heavy-duty "putty" Command or 3M material that is ensured to be able to hold what seems to be 17+ lbs.!All-in-all though, I think this is a very capable ceiling lamp that offers a great alternative to a professional ceiling wiring and installation. It offers more than enough light, but it's weight and lack of clear intuitive instructions and build may cause some difficulties and further ingenuity to make it succeed. But, at least for me, all of these caveats don't deter me from rating it a full 5 stars!

Pretty good lights - decent motion; maybe bad QA?
I decided to put one in my outside workshop, and one on my inside coat closet.Easy to install - though the directions don't mention removing a plastic screw that I almost broke trying to bypass.Motion is pretty 'straight down' - It has no real angle detection in my experience, but once triggered, it comes up and is reliable. Well, ONE of them was, and this is my concern of QA.My second one flickered, a lot. I think it's a defect in it's "light detection" where it auto dims? I don't really know.It has a 'header' inside (A plastic cap you remove) if you want to change how ambient mode works, but this did nothing for me. No matter what I tried.Over-all, for it's price point; highly recommend it. When it works - It works. I replaced the defective one and now my workshop is super bright as you can tel in this pic - This is pitch black outside, and I can easily see everything in there.I likely will add a second to bypass shadow affect, but that's a good thing.

Works great and easier to install in Tile ceiling then imagined!
I purchased the water resistant Mr. Beams MB990 light to solve a difficult problem with an easy solution. I have a small ensuite bathroom with a small shower (40” x 35”). I needed to light up the dark shower but didn’t want the expense of running electrical wires for a hard-wired light. I also wanted the light to work if the rest of the bathroom was lighted outside of the shower. I was able to remove the photo sensor cap on the inside (located near the battery compartment) of the fixture. This set up enables the light fixture to go on in daylight as opposed to being restricted to turning on only when dark and sensing motion.Installing this motion sensor light into tile was easier than I thought it would be. I was nervous drilling into tile after reading how hard it was on websites. I purchased an 7/32” multi-material drill bit (diamond-ground carbide tip). The 7/32” size worked perfectly for the plastic anchors that came with the light. I taped off the areas I was going to drill and using my awl I lightly tapped a small indentation on the screw location marks I had drawn, to prevent the drill bit from jumping. Set my drill on number 7 (out of 15) to be middle speed and applied medium pressure. Took less then 4 minutes to drill all 4 holes. Complete installation took approximately 20 minutes including prep and clean up. The light works well and when I close the shower curtain across the opening the light does not come on if someone comes into the bathroom to use just the sink or toilet – won’t be wasting battery life. The light easily stays on while showering and doesn’t go out, but then I’m not standing still in the shower. Based on my initial usage of this light I would recommend it as an easy solution for lighting up an area without having to run electrical wires though joists and walls in an existing bathroom.

Exactly what I was looking for
I've ordered 2 of these, after having to return 1 (and get another one to be delivered) due to the sensor not working, everything works exactly as expected.

Exactly what I wanted!
These Mr. Beams motion detecting LED lights are exactly what I was looking for. My linen closet had no light and no electrical to run to it without a big electrician and drywaller bill so these are perfect. They are easy to install. Have a nice sleek clean look and design. Require 4 D batteries and the motion detection is excellent. I like the feature that if it is already bright and light enough, the light does not come since it is not required. The light is a nice cool white brightness that is perfect for my linen closet. Definitely recommend and will buy more.
