Not Extra Fine Nib
It's a fine pen, as far as it goes, but the nib is not "extra-fine". The picture shows three pens: a black Waterman Laureat (my favorite pen style) on the left with a fine nib, and a red Waterman Laureat with a medium nib. In the center is the Platinum Fountain Pen. As you can see from the lines, the Platinum "extra-fine" line is broader than either of the two lines created by the Waterman pens.

Writes Great if You Use Premium Paper
I'm a recent fountain pen enthusiast, so my review doesn't come from a place of great experience or know how. However, I have written with a number of the recommended beginner pens including the fine version of the Platinum Preppy. I find the EF nib is far more sensitive that the F nib to the type of writing paper used. On the Mead Five Star, which is not the cheapest filler paper you can buy, the F nib just glides across, but the EF nib can feel quite scratchy. However, when I write on in my Muji notebook I find that the EF nib glides too. I've seen a couple of videos and read a couple of articles on nib smoothing, but it just feels like too much of an investment of time and effort at this stage in my fountain pen journey. I do recommend this pen, but with the caveat that you need to use some premium paper to get it to write smoothly out of the box. The line quality is great and the ink flow acceptable, though I do find it to be a touch inconsistent than the F nibs.

Great
This pen works very well for the money. Extra Fine Nib works well depending on the absorption rate of the paper. Feathering is minimal on most paper with little strike through. I think it's an excellent product for the money. Used a fountain pen in the 50's and wanted to get back to basics and this was highly rated for what it is. Very happy with the product and would highly recommend it. Since the reviews indicated the ink cartridges were proprietary and can be hard to find, I also bought the converter separately. Total overall expenditure, less than $15.00. That's a deal for what you get.

Best beginner fountain pen
As a beginner fountain pen user, this pen works like a charm; easy to write, easy to load ink, easy to clean.I use the #3, Pilot's finest point, because I write small. But I also use the #2 for writing and line drawing (for borders in my journals). I can out then in my pocket, in a satchel, in a box with a fox; the haven't leaked yet from being jostled around.I have fancier fountain pens, but the Preppy is my "go to" every day use pen.

Best fountain pen for writing and sketching
I love these pens! I find them lightweight and easy to hold! The nibs are smooth and haven’t been clogging or blotting. Such a great pen for the price. Apparently, you can lay them down for a year and pick it back up and it will be ready to write. I haven’t been able to test it because I use mine all the time!

I received this pen today, not sure how to ...
I received this pen today, not sure how to insert ink cartridge, it doesn't seem to want to press on. I did however dip the nib in an ink bottle and got enough ink to write with it, it seems to write ok, albeit somewhat scratchy for now, hopefully that will clear up.....anyone can tell me how to use cartridge, I watched one video and it looked as though the cartridge was just inserted and not pressed on, confused here. (update) I have now properly been informed how to insert cartridge and am much happier. I am still learning with fountain pens but I am really beginning to like them very much.

Decent inexpensive extra fine point, a rarity
It's a decent cheap fountain pen with an extra fine point. The line is as fine as my .38mm gel pens and is more fun to write with. It's difficult to find extra fine fountain pens that don't cost a lot. It isn't too scratchy and so far it's used very little ink. If you want an extra fine point, this pen is a bargain that's hard to beat.EDIT: After hearing about eye dropper conversions (see the comment section), I'll probably go that route. Filling the barrel with ink looks like 10 times the ink capacity of a cartridge (and I just bought a 10-pack; oh, well, I'll try it later).

Alright, but requires work to use
Lovely fell in the hand and the ink isn't bad. I absolutely love that the nibs are so tiny! I'm an extra-small writer and that .02 nib's got me... Except for a few issues with the ink mechanics. The flow is very good out of the box, but will change drastically after sitting for any amount of time. Sitting on its side for 24 hours after use caused it to dry a bit and the nib got difficult. I didn't want to have a difficult-to-use "disposable" fountain pen. Remembering to treat it gentler than my expensive FPs is frustrating for me.

Very poor quality
Unfortunately, it’s not even worth considering

Not great.
It's quite a scratchy pen and tends to have an ink flow problem.
