I don't mix the dye with water because it's so much more fun to wind up the fabric, tie it off, soak it with a soda ash and hot water mix from a spray bottle and sprinkle these amazing packets of beautiful color in fun creative and exciting ways. Soak the fabric sprinkle the dye, soak that in with the same mixture and let that dry then unwrap it and let it dry some more throw it in the dryer and begin the rinse process. But if I were going to create buckets of dye I would use about two cups of hot hot water per packet or maybe a little bit more. I'm so sorry I haven't answered your question but I hope you will find awesome ways to use this awesome product! There is never a time that I don't have these packets on my glass kitchen table ready to go with rubber bands and some bundle of shirts in case someone stops by and wants to have a little fun. No need for messy mixing! *by B***. on July 19, 2023* Ordered the 26 color pack. All packs arrived in perfect shape. It would benefit the seller to have SOME basic instructions with it, but you get nothing but dye. These are "Fiber Reactive" dyes, best results with 100% natural fibers (cotton, rayon etc) and pre-soak w/ Soda Ash (NOT baking soda). Soda Ash is also known as "Washing Soda" (in the U.S.). This can be found in the laundry aisle of most grocery stores and bought for cheap. Put "Fiber Reactive tie dying" in a search engine, there is a TON of information to insure success. There are "Pro" brands of this type of dye (made in the U.S.) but cost QUITE a bit more, so you are only able to buy a few colors and mix if you want to keep it cheap. The mixing can sometimes take longer than the rest of the tie dye process, so not fun for a kids tie dye party. I have several of these "pro" colors and bought the 26 color kit to mix with them which worked well. You often need to use more of this type to get the same rich color and doesn't seem to mix quite as well.
