Does the mounting base function with a MagSafe case?

We recommend using the metal disc anyway to make sure your phone is securely mounted.

Once you put your phone on the mount, how do you easily remove your phone. I have to pry it off with a tool. What’s the trick?

Will the discs work with a Steele brand magnet ball?

It will work with Steelie Orbiter only, the one where the metal disc is placed on the phone's back (not the magnetic socket itself).

Is there a way to tighten the 'friction' of the ball to keep the phone from angling down over a periord of time. After 15 min phone is pointed down.

I dont think so. If so, I haven't found it. My phone is pretty heavy and it immediately points downward when I put it on the mount.
