There are no plastic pieces - the bottle and screw top are made of stainless steel and the sleeve, travel cap (yes, a cap - it's amazing how many sippies don't come with one!), and Nuk nipple are made from silicone. Before first use, I boiled the sleeve, cap, and nipple in water for 5 minutes and ran the stainless steel items through my dishwasher. Since then, I've been cleaning them with soap and water each evening after my daughter is done with them. The bottle becomes a little heavy once you fill it up but so far it hasn't seemed to bother her (she's almost 2). The bottle isn't insulted but the sleeve keeps little hands from becoming chilly. The only downside I've found so far is that the sleeve is EXTREMELY difficult to slide on. The manufacturer recommends that you remove it from the bottle once a week to clean and getting it back on is a giant pain. If you put a tiny dab of water and/or dish soap on the inside before sliding up the bottle, it does seem to help. If my daughter continues to use this as much as she does now, I may consider purchasing a new one.
