External handles smoothly lie flat after use but always readily grasped. Internally, we have not a lot of room--but remember, this is a carry-on. There is an attached, padded container for a 15" laptop. Straps will hold down any errant clothing. All very sleek. There's even a neoprene rubber-like compartment for a Swiss Army Knife! It's really an incredibly well-made carry-on that can be pushed smoothly around or pulled in a tilted way behind. So why the 3 star review? Almost $400 for a carry-on is a very hard pill to swallow indeed, unless you're not the kind to worry about such petty things. So, if you can easily afford it, it will be the best carry-on you will have ever seen (and the warranty is great: 1 year, all-expenses paid, + 10 additional years). It's just a tad smaller than most carry-on suitcases. The Victorinox is made from your standard woven suitcase material. It's a tightly woven material with a smooth finish and slight sheen. The suitcase is nondescript and easily blends in with the hundreds of other black suitcases at the airport. Thankfully two gray stripes and the large logo make it easy to pick out upon closer inspection. Build and material quality is exemplary. The wheels roll smoothly, the interior is nicely finished, the zippers move smoothly and have large pulls, and the handles are a joy to grab. The one letdown is the telescoping handle. It feels robust and comes up smoothly, but I've struggled at times to get it to retract. The suitcase survived being checked on an airline twice, and being thrown under a bus multiple times. The suitcase is very thoughtfully organized. In the interior is a removable organizer that can be used to segregate clothes, store electronics, or wrap a garment around. There is a zippered section on the lid, a pocket for a Swiss Army knife, and a pocket that you can insert a portable USB battery into. When you plug the battery in you can access it through a USB port on the back of the suitcase. Additionally, on the back of the suitcase is a pull-out name tag panel with a small pen and cell phone SIM removal tool. The front of the suitcase has two small zippered compartments. While the suitcase is thoughtfully designed to make to most of its space, it is a bit narrow from front to back. I was able to pack enough clothes for a summer trip to Florida for a week, but I had to be very deliberate about what I took. Besides being narrow, the hardware for top handle and side handles is bulky and eats into interior storage space. Thankfully the suitcase is expandable as the need arises.
