It goes away after you let them soak, expand and throw them in the dryer. Just don’t load too many in because it might break off some of the edges. I've purchased 6 sets (of 12 panels) over a couple months, and the charcoal color varies within each set by a shade or two. Some have a sparkly, metallic sheen, while others are duller. Big variations on exact size of each panel as well.
