Easy Brussels Sprouts Cookbook: 50 Delicious Brussels Sprouts Recipes

Easy Brussels Sprouts Cookbook earns 5/5 Spicy Sprouts...Delicious!
Not my favorite vegetable growing up, in fact, I hated Brussels sprouts, dreaded the little cabbage heads, and tried to feign ever disease I could to avoid dinner! But, thanks to a vegetarian college roommate, I saw the evil of my ways! The Easy Brussels Sprouts Cookbook is part of BookSumo Press’s The Effortless Chef series taking advantage of a team of “chefs and kitchen experts” to create “50 Delicious Brussels Sprouts Recipes.” The variety was surprising with flavorful sides using traditional to exotic spices: the Orient to the Middle East, the Mediterranean to home style BBQ. There were a couple of casseroles, soups, and salads, with steamed to baked or deep fried to stir fry prep, and satiating one’s sweet to savory palate. Each recipe provides easy-to-find ingredients, easy-to-follow directions, and easy-to-enjoy recipes complimenting as a side or center stage as an entree. At the end of each recipe for the chef who needs to know you’ll find amount per serving, timing information, and nutritional information. I was disappointed that the eBook version didn’t include a photo of the finished product—my favorite element. But, it is easily navigated with links in the Table of Contents. I know it’s a veggie, healthy, right? But, I would have appreciated some tips to go beyond the “easy,” ways to glam it up, or suggestions for people who are lactose intolerant, but still wish to enjoy the Heavy Cream Gratin Supreme. All in all, I have successful made six recipes so far from the Gourmet Brussels Sprouts to a Caramelized version as accompaniment to my meatloaf and pot roast to a Sunday Hash which I improved with cubed SPAM and then altering Maria’s Turkey Bacon Brussels Sprouts to fit my husband’s bacon purist tastes. I enjoyed the sweet in the Double Apple and Thyme Sprouts and the spicy in Ontario Backroad Brussels Sprouts. This cookbook is a go-to resource to get up close and culinary friendly with the totally misunderstood, and now totally appreciated, Brussels sprout!

Great alternative ideas
Bought as a gift for my brother, who is diabetic but has discovered that he likes fresh Brussels Sprouts. This should offer some alternative ways to eat them.

What a boring cookbook,

Good concept but not many original recipes
Recipes aren't very imaginative, just sprouts cooked in different ways with very few other ingredients. I expected soups, gratins, etc.
