Stone Devil Duke: A Hold Your Breath Novel

A truly gripping story :)
I wasn't sure after reading some of the reviews but I have learned that with the free kindle books I always give at least a few chapters before writing it off, even some of the most loved books take longer than a few pages to get into but we are glad we stuck to them after discovering what we could have missed right? I'm glad that I stuck with this book. It really did grip my attention and I found I didn't want to stop reading.Aggie is a lady, with all the morals of one too, however due to witnessing the death of her father and her brother missing, presumed dead, she feels that it is her duty to take care of her family and not only to seek justice for her fathers death but also to live in peace, you see she saw the men that murdered her father and they are after her too, her only plan... to kill them. Aggie feels her only way is to entice these scoundrels to her and decides to dress up as a hack driver, although she rarely picks up a fare, this one night she ends up picking up a fare due to his carriage being in an accident, not realising this would be the night she would meet her fathers killers and also involve the man she would fall in love with, the duke.Poor Aggie feels the responsibility is all on her and finds it very hard to accept the help from the duke, but Devin feels something he never has and wants to protect Aggie and makes it his business to know everything about her and to really help her. The duke has a reputation that wards off many, but Aggie is not frightened of him. Night after night Aggie lives her second life, dangerously and not very safely, but thankfully the duke is there when needed. There was certainly many times I couldn't wait to turn the page and find out more, many situations I felt my heart hurt for them, and times when I felt I was imposing on their passion, hehe, but I thoroughly enjoyed their love story.I enjoyed Aggie as a heroine, she's bold especially to flick the ear of a duke! I liked the story of them falling in love and telling each other's deepest demons, although at times I felt it was a little tit for tat in that respect. Yes the hero was one for bedding woman, a rake, but he found his mate in Aggie and I enjoyed his transformation from a man that was shut off to someone that bared his soul. My heart went out to Aggie for what she felt she had to do for her loyalty to her family. The story was a good one and I enjoyed finding more out about these two.Sometimes I had to reread parts because I was like eh? But apart from that I would definitely recommend giving it a try. The book is a good length which I liked, sometimes I feel some of these novels are a long time to get to the good bits and then it finishes very quickly/suddenly, this book however had a lot of different things going on that did really hold your attention right to the end. I honestly didn't want Devin and Aggies story to end.I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the others in the series to get to know the other characters too, which were also touched upon in this book.

Made me want to read more by this author
I enjoyed this novel, great plot twists and interesting characters, but found the middle of the book a bit whiny. But great to have a confident female lead who knows what she wants and goes for it - The authors other series - Vow is much better, so if you enjoyed this - check out the rest of her work

It stretches belief... and I think I was bothered by little things...
Looked at one way, it is quite a good adventure story, and historically it is quite accurate in its presentation of the poorer quarter of London at that period. On the other hand, it stretches belief that a young girl could do and survive what she did and survived!I quite liked Aggie and Devin, but all in all can not give the book more than three stars. I think I was bothered by little things, such as her brother referring to their mother as 'mum', when at that time and at that level in society it would always have been Mama, or possibly Mother. There was also one time when Thomson, the butler refered to Aggie by this, her nickname, to his master, the Duke. Horrors! She would always have been referred to as Lady Augustine by him, however close a retainer he was to the Duke!It is a good length book and has a lot of suspense, so it may well be to many readers' taste. But I won't be rushing to find another book by this author.

Danger unfolds
What a cracking piece of writing as usual K J holds you in suspense and brings tears to your eyes she gives you everything in her strong novels I love them .The lovely Stonewell Duke is VERY appealing but the bravery of Aggie is proof we women are strong she was both strong and vulnerable but astonishing so sad that bought tears to your eyes so pleased her brother returned but again put her in danger until her Duke came for her great read truly could not put it down

Strong beginning, but did not quite keep pace 3.5 stars
An enjoyable read incorporating a good element of adventure. The novel has a strong start, but I thought it had a weak ending. The novel also relapsed into to much sexual content for my taste, which distracted from the story, after all there is only so much you can write on the subject. I agree with other reviewers about the use of modern language in places. The storyline was good, and yes, it probably was far fetched for the period, but that is the nature of a novel and it did not bother me. What is a novel for, but to take you into the realms of fantasy.I liked the strong heroine and the strong sense of adventure in the beginning but can only give three and a half stars ( I have erred on the generous side, as there are no half ratings) because the novel did not quite keep up the pace. However I cannot complain, it was quite good for a free read. The one star ratings are just too silly.

Excellent book
Characters are alive and were almost seen in my minds eye. I could see this making an excellent movie. However, one point I have noticed with American writers, trying to write the English language of the times, is that they let themselves down very badly by using the words “ mom” instead of “mama”, said as “ marmar” and “blocks” instead of “ streets”.

Really, really good
Not your typical regency novel, hardly a ballroom in sight. You get great characters, intrigue and passion.Didn't want to put it down and was almost sad when finished. However does introduce secondary characters that also have their own books!

Research needed
The story is good, young woman in difficulties, meets handsome rich man, falls in love, difficulties sorted. I feel that the use of modern day language in regency novels detract from the whole plot. Some research on how the language flowed in the era who really add to the story. Also, I was expecting a real romance of the time I didn't need to wade through pages describing the sexual encounters, I have imagination and like the suspense that stopping just short of detail gives. I am not intending to try any more, but the writing flowed and is readable and so if you like this type of story then it is probably worth giving it a go.

STONE DEVIL DUKE: A Hold Your Breath Novel Book #1 by K.J. Jackson
RatIng: 4.5 StarsOMG, this book was so wonderful! It was only my second experience with Ms. Jackson's writing and I was super impressed. Not only were the characters vivid and life-like but I fell in love with both Devon & Aggie and enjoyed every second I spent with them on their romantic journey. The story itself was action packed and touched me emotionally too. A couple of scenes actually brought tears to my eyes they were just so heartwrenching. My only real issue with the book and the reason I knocked off a half a star is because the story slowed down a bit once the marriage took place. At that point there seemed to be more of a focus on sex and not a lot else. Other than that one criticism however I still loved this lovely romance which was beautifully written and a true joy to read. I honestly cannot wait to read the next two books in the series and highly recommend this one... =)Setting: England, 1819-1820Length: The kindle edition ended on page 255 and the 87% mark.

Survival
I really love this book. A writer I found accidentally and wow... Miss Jackson really blows me away with her stories. Lovely strong h and heart-swooning H, witty banter ( though sometimes it seemed more a modern conversation than historical banter). Definitely recommend this book

Fastpaced hist. romance
Fastpaced adventurous historical romance. I enjoyed it. The attention to past and present trauma of the main characters was unexpected, kudos to the author for including that element.
