I think anything that may have been handled and has come from a factory or machine should be washed, especially if you are drinking from it!

Do these straws fit in juice boxes? My kids often turn the paper ones to mush so I'm looking for an alternative

Not tried. Wouldn't put them in lunchboxes. They could be dangerous in a school environment.

are these suitable for small fruit juice cartons

I wouldn't use them for that as there straws are tapered, narrower at the bottom than at the top and not narrow enough for juice cartons
