No, there is no adhesive . . . it is meant to slide into a channel. You must remove one end of the window/door framework. After you slide it in wherever needed, the "furry" part will be above the flat surface, and make contact with whatever it's supposed to when installed.

does this 3/16-inch wool pile weatherstripping have a plastic or cloth backing?

It's a stiff plastic sheet backing, with wool rug-like pile woven through it.

what exactly is the thickness of the pile ? how much of gap will it fill ?

Pile is 4mm but only about 2mm exposed when in the 6mm (1/4") channel

How many total feet does ordering qty 1 provide? The description is 18' (pack of 18). Is that 18 1' pieces or qty 18 of 18' rolls?

Length is a single piece of 18 ft total. Other concern is the zigzag (zipper-shaped) backing or lack thereof. I first ordered one package as a sample, and it came with zipper shape backing. Worked great. Re-ordered same product number to do the rest of my windows, and received strip with smooth backing, not zippered, which made it impossible to install in my windows. Mfr. seems to be changing product without changing the number - so you will get 18 feet, but may or may not have zipper-shaped backing.
