I read a lot of the reviews on here some good some bad. So today I decided to try it out a mild winters day, I did it on our enclosed sundeck. Had a challenge getting it started but once I did was greatly surprised how quickly the gasification process started. What I had done I went on Youtube and searched the reviews on there being able to see it in use is the way to learn. After reviewing I decided the best way to go is with wood pellets. I also noted that those that had negative reviews did not know how to pack it correctly with the sticks (as in vertical). Wood pellets seemed to be the most popular choice by most reviewers. For example a 40lb bag is around $8.00 and that is a lot of pellets. I filled the actual basket with the pellets which is about half full. Once I had the fire caught I started my timer. At approximately 14 minutes 50 seconds I saw the start of gasification, from one hole at the top by 15 minutes and 23 seconds I had full gasification. Placing the cooker stand on I then used the grill to steady my two cup camping pot. In just under 6 minutes I had a rolling boil. So from start to boiling it took 22 minutes. Even after I took the pot off it continued to burn gasification finished at about 40 minutes and that was just using half a pellet load. However there was still a lot of heat coming from the glowing coals. So I am very impressed with this little unit if I had completely filled it to just below the vents at the top I estimate I would have had at least an hour and 20 minute burn time. I was a little concerned with the ashes and coals dropping through, however I did pick up a metal pie plate from our local thrift store for $1.00 and even then it dropped very little to no coals or ash. Yes I agree the pot holders are a little weak and flimsy looking but as some reviewers on Youtube stated if you look after it it will look after you. In closing a fantastic alternative cooker to gas, with the pellets lasting so long I estimate that 40 pound bag of pellets will last us for at least 120 burns. So you cannot beat the price of those little propane bottles or the weight. Yes I highly recommend this product and considering buying a second.
