Excellent read
Read with my grandson when he was young but definitely NOT just a children's book ~ read between the lines. Bought this copy for my grandson to bring such wonderful memories to his children, when the time comes!!

Spectacular!!!
I never read this book when I was younger and after reading other reviews, I decided to buy it and read to my class. I have just finished reading it and this book is a must for everybody! The children want me to read it again to them. It is up there with all the best children's book ever written. Amazing story, simplicity at it's best! All the characters are beautifully portrayed and Biegel writes with such ease and eligance.Ideal to read to children from age 4 upwards and for independent readers I would recommend age 7 upwards both boys and girls. If you are an adult that has not read this book, please do as it could be read in an afternoon. Strangly enough there are parallels in this book to things that are happening around the world at the moment, but as this has a happy ending it will make you feel as though life is worth it all in the end :-)

and I did enjoy it. It would be great for bedtime stories ...
Began to read this book, and I did enjoy it. It would be great for bedtime stories as it captures the imagination and leads the reader on a wondeful journey. It is a book which contains many different short stories, so one can never get bored of the story not going anywhere or taking too long to get to any climax. It is full of exciting literary climaxes.

passing it on
I had this book as a child and loved it, now I have two girls (12,9) we took the book camping with us and of an evening I read the story. I don't want to spoil it so won't go into detail. Each chapter is a story brought by an animal. They both loved it ans I enjoyed reading it again as an adult. love love love it :) 3 happy girls ....maybe they will pass it on too

Cracking children's book
I read this when I was 9 and was enthralled and didn't stop reading it until I was around 14. I bought it so that my 7 year old can enjoy magical writing and a great story. Paul Biegel is a master storyteller who should be better known in this country, particularly The Seven Times Search - an absolute must for children struggling with maths.

Brilliant story
I can't believe I never read this when I was younger! What a brilliant story - I feel I should really read it again to get the full 'messages' but otherwise it's structured really well, and makes a good book for bedtime stories. Each chapter is a story in itself, which all combine to make a whole story. Wonderful!
