Unsurprisingly Well-Written and Informative
Even though I am pursing a freelance career in graphic design, the information in this book is incredibly helpful and applicable. The writing style is very clear and organized, with concise chapters that give you great insights on next steps for your own business. It's a pretty quick read - I definitely would recommend!

A no-nonense guide to finding your place in the freelance writing world
The best thing about this book is that it comes straight from the horse's mouth, and from someone who really did build their business from scratch. Laura Pennington Briggs gives you the benefit of all the mistakes she made and the successful approaches she has taken to become a well-known freelancer, coach and project manager. What I like most about the book is the encouragement she gives and the resources she evaluates on your behalf, which is definitely going to cut down on time wasted. For example, she is clear that you can prepare writing samples that don't have to have been published, the point after all is that you can write well and appropriately. The only reason I havent' given it 5 stars is that there is quite a bit of repetition of anecdotes in the book. In some ways that's useful because it really drives the point home. However, I did find it a little confusing. If you are thinking of exploring this career I thoroughly recommend the book. It doesn't pretend to be a magic bullet instead it offers great advice and experiences so you can get going realistically and not waste time and money.

A perfect primer for a writing biz newbie or a refresher for a veteran
I launched my freelance writing business almost two years ago. Guess what? Being a great writer and running a successful business are two different things. This book contains all the business-ownership gems you need to know to be CEO of a firm that continually generates new leads and retains loyal clients. This book is an easy, pleasurable read and answers all your questions about becoming an entrepreneur: what it takes to succeed, what life is really like as a freelance writer, business basics like setting up your LLC and paying taxes, the art of pitching, setting your rates, and where to find clients. It's exciting that today freelance writing is no longer viewed as a "starving artist" occupation, that talented people can launch six-figure businesses in their first and second years. As an uber-successful freelance writer herself, Laura Pennington Briggs has offered a proven road map to business success that you can devour in a few hours and come back to again and again. I highly recommend this book for anyone who's launching their business, or as a trusted handbook to return to again and again while you're navigating business hurdles.
