Excellent introductory resource.
This book is an excellent resource for Christians seeking to gain an overall grasp of intellectual history along premodern, modern, and postmodern lines. It also helps one to better understand the cultural milieu that we find ourselves in here in the West. As a seminary student, I found it very helpful in providing a "lay of the land" on these important topics, lending insight into areas that I have studied in my regular coursework. The bibliography is also well-organized and provides fruitful avenues for further reading. For what it's worth, I'll disclose that I have not met Dr. White or attended his courses at UNC Wilmington and do not have a personal interest in providing this book a good review. This is simply an excellent book on its own merits, and deserves praise and attention from those who need a balanced, concise introduction to the subject. It is worth the investment of time and money. Thanks for taking the time to write this book, Dr. White.

A great place to start, and then the deconstruction is on you. Just don't skip that last part if enlightenment is your end.
The one flaw of this book is that in the reading, the modern is always a necessary construction to explain postmodernism. This flaw in not induced by the author, but is a characteristic of all good authoring. This contradiction is necessary for any narrative to be useful, and so the construction of the argument must be applied to the reader's effort to deconstruct the meaning to find personal significance, otherwise the book becomes nothing more than a resource to 'copy and paste' another's ideas to fool oneself into thinking something has been learned.

Just what I was looking for and more
What I was looking for was a clear definition of postmodernism. What I learned from this book was that this was not entirely possible. Nevertheless, with surprising ease I was able to get a good grasp of postmodernism which was just what I was looking for. It also has the bonus of discussion questions at the end of each chapter. I'm not sure that I would want to use the entire book for a Sunday School class or Small Group study, but I will use some of the chapters in my teaching. This is a topic terribly relevant to modern evangelism. The questions look interesting and good for discussion. I am looking forward to trying them out.

An education in Postmodernism
Postmodernism 101 is a well-written discussion of postmodernism as compared to premodernism and modernism. Heath approaches the subject from the viewpoint of a Christian and an intellectual, but without pretentious vocabulary. His writing style reminds me of C.S. Lewis': conversational and straightforward, easy to read, easy to follow.I highly recommend this book for anyone who has wondered just what postmodernism is, and for anyone who wonders what Christianity looks like in a postmodern age.

The Best of Many Options (in my opinion)
Anyone catch the postmodern perspective in my headline? If you didn't, I'd suggest you read this book. It does a beautiful job of outlining the different mindsets and perspectives of pre-modern, modern, and postmodern thought, while offering great insights for those in the predominantly modern world of evangelical Christianity.

The book covers a lot of ground without dumbing down the subject. Accessible reading for those new to current views.
