Well written if you want something gentle.
This is an entertaining, cosy, undemanding read that I completed in 3 days. Perfect for the beach or a bit of escapism from the real world. There is no real angst or tension, and perhaps predictable, but I loved the characters, and descriptions of the setting are excellent. I could easily see my self in the village and wild coastal setting. The plot was soft, almost unbelievable in places but I felt the story just about got away with it. Given the subject matter though, it could have been more powerful and gritty. It became a bit too soporific to be a 5 star read but I would happily pick up another book by this author. There is nothing wrong with a gentle read from time to timeOverall, I enjoyed it. Would recommend if you want a bit of calm escapism.

A bit basic but enjoyable
In the small town of Ballycove, Elizabeth is readjusting to her new life now her husband of many years has died. In Eric's death, Elizabeth discovers that her loveless marriage was even more secretive than she could have imagined and her husband has left a mountain of debt alongside his GP practice behind. But help might be at hand when Elizabeth's friend Jo asks her daughter to visit and Lucy decides to take over the practice on a short-term basis. Soon the three women form the Ladies Midnight Swimming Club together and nightly swims allow them to rebalance their souls, lives and come to terms with the love and loss in each life. This book was a nice read, and very enjoyable for me. I liked reading about all three women, and each woman was struggling with her own worry or burden and it was refreshing to see them lean on each other for support, and love each other in different ways. The small town of Ballycove was also a lovely setting as it's very insular and everyone knows and looks out for each other.I do think that the book felt a bit light and a lot of topics could have been dealt with it in a bigger way, and it felt like time passed very quickly in the book when I would have liked more time to have been dedicated to each woman's struggle, their relationship and other storylines going on in the book.I didn't find anything surprising in this book as everything was always very obvious what was going to happen.

Endearingly positive
Hesitant at the first few pages, this booked wrapped you in warmth and positivity. Although a few tears were shed, the uplift from reading has a lasting quality.

Highly recommended read, I couldn't put it down...
I absolutely loved this book, which had me hooked from the first few pages. Written by Faith Hogan, I read another book by her, and this title was shown at the end.Set in Ballycove, Ireland, the story is about coming home and coming together to raise money for a worthy cause.Elizabeth, the doctor's wife, realises her husband wasn't all he seemed. After he died and she found a pile of papers on his desk. She's got to find a way out of the mess he left her in.Jo, Elizabeth's best friend in the village, thinks she has the answer. However, she's also been keeping something to herself, something which is very serious!Lucy, Jo's daughter is an A&E doctor, burnt out she takes a sabbatical and goes home to Ballycove with her teenage Son, Niall, who doesn't want to be in a sleepy town like Ballycove. As a way to relax, the three women go swimming in the sea at midnight, this bonds them together and gives Lucy an idea for a fundraising event. Then there's Dan, a writer. Having left his job, he seeks sanctuary in Ballycove and decides to write a novel, but will it be favourably received? He's also there to find something, but he's worried about telling people what he's searching for? Could it be that it's there? It is a great book that I highly recommend, especially if you love Irosh fiction. If you like Maeve Binchy books, you'll love this one.

Compassionate and touching
Excellently narrated story laden with emotion. Though the story ended as was expected but it captured the feelings of three ladies in it's own spectacular and emotive manner. Things started falling in place as the story moved ahead bringing it to a happy ending.

You laugh, you cry
As the initial description of this book is what convinced me to purchase it I will not reiterate further on the plot. Suffice to say it touches in the minimum way on the disgraceful attitude of the catholic nuns with regard to unmarried mothers in Ireland but more than anything the strength of women when faced with illness and death.Once started it is one of those books that you want to finish to see the outcome, I laughed with the main characters and I cried with them.I am 100% convinced to continue reading books by Faith Hogan who is a new author for me.
