Solid Piano Playing Guide
This book is a great resource for beginning pianists, providing a plethora of knowledge. It goes over finger positioning, fundamental notes, and a few easy songs to pick up. Its brief structure made it simple to read fast, which I loved. "Piano & Keyboard for Beginners" offers everything you need to get started on the path to becoming a proficient pianist. It takes you to an intermediate level by starting with basic courses like locating notes on the piano and moving on to scales, melodies, and songs. While there are a few grammatical and spelling issues, this is still a great guide. You won't miss anything because of the author's fascinating and simple-to-understand storytelling style.

Disappointed
I got this as a gift for my 13 year-old grandson for Christmas. I'll be anxious to hear if he likes it or not. He actually is teaching himself how to play without a teacher at this moment and is doing very well. I just thought he might want to learn how to read music in the meantime. I'm sorry I didn't read the specifics very carefully to learn this book is only half size. AND I did not read ALL of the reviews. Because it is bound and not stapled like a regular music book it will be difficult to set on the music stand and use at the piano, besides the fact that there is not very much actual music. It does seem very thorough, initially thought it would be good, but now not so sure. Did not want to give him a version for a young child, but hoping this is not TOO much, and possible too overwhelming for him.

Easy to understand
I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I had minimal skills until I bought this book. Michael Williams’ “Piano & Keyboard for Beginners” has helped me come so far in my piano playing skills. The techniques taught in this book are super easy to follow. I have been able to master the basics and move on to more advanced skills. My daughter has even joined in and started to learn the basics – from me! I was able to learn it and teach it to my own daughter. That is such a feeling of pride for me! I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to play piano. It is totally doable!

It makes learning piano easy.
Piano & Keyboard for Beginners made learning piano so easy. It covered everything I needed to know. It started with simple lessons like how to find the notes on the keyboard. And before you know it, I was playing scales, arpeggios, and songs. Even though the book is advertised for beginners, it took me to an intermediate level. And I feel like I have a much broader understanding of music in general. The author has a great voice. He uses a storytelling approach to make learning interesting. He speaks in a clear language, so you don’t miss a beat. And unlike a video, you don’t have to go back and rewind if you miss something. Everything is right there for you. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn piano. It’s an excellent choice.

Poor editing and proofreading
As a new student of the piano, I recently purchased Piano & Keyboard for Beginners. With excitement, I began reading the book and almost immediately found myself disappointed with awkward and grammatically incorrect English, errors and omissions. In short order, I found myself proofreading, rather than reading for information. For example: Page 12 paragraph one has a sentence, "To pull the idea of 12 notes repeating from the bottom to the top of the keyboard, we're introducing the word octave". This sentence is awkward and a very odd use of English language grammar. Ideas aren't pulled. In the context of the sentence, it appears the author intended the word 'communicate'. Page 21 paragraph two. "Imagine a horizontal straight line drawn on a piece of paper. On that line, starting at the left ends and moving right along the line, the 7 letters of the music alphabet are writer, A, B. C. D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E, F,G,A, B etc, until the line is full". This paragraph has two glaring grammatical errors. The word 'ends' (plural) should be 'end' (singular). The word 'writer' should be 'written'. Page 27 paragraph four, third sentence. Next in the measure is a symbol in the staff lines. This is a rest. It would have been helpful to mention this is a 'quarter' rest. Page 28 paragraph one, second sentence referencing Figure 13. "The third measure contains two clear notes in the treble clef, followed by two clear notes in the bass clef". There are not two clear notes in either the treble clef or the bass clef in measure three. If I were to guess, I would guess that the author used speech to text software to facilitate the writing of this book. If so, such software may be helpful, however the need for meticulous proof reading increases significantly. It does not appear that this book was effectively proofread. Sadly, I must return this book. The topics addressed appear to be appropriate. However, the ways in which they were presented are error prone, awkward, confusing, and distracting. Toward helping future purchasers of this book, I emailed the author and suggested that he: 1. Meticulously proofread all material. In particular, ensure congruence between paragraph subject matter, diagrams, and figures. 2. Ensure all symbols or concepts that are introduced the first time are defined before the fact, not during discussion, or after the fact.

Helped me become competent at playing the
This is an absolutely amazing piano book. I didn't know anything about playing the piano (I actually started with the keyboard first) and I know I can play very confidently and it's been around 3 weeks or so. Love it! The book starts by explaIning all the fundamentals you need to know in an easy to understand language and then it proceeds explaIning practical examples with clear explanations. The book is very easy to understand, the instructions are clear and it's obvious it has been very carefully thought out so that the step by step learning process is as easy as possible. Usually it takes me a long time to learn a new skill but this time around I was able to get a hang of things very quickly. And this book has a lot to do with it, on the other hand I might just be super talented at playing the piano but I doubt it haha. I mean, I'm not completely tone deaf but I am no mozart either hah. I always loved music (who doesn't) and was always attracted to the idea of playing a musical instrument but I never got around to it. I'm usually always busy with my studies and my job so any free time I get I like to socialize and have some fun. So on hand I always wanted to learn the play the muSical instrument but then on another hand I wanted to socialize and have some fun until I realized that learning how to play a piano is actually super fun, at least for me. It started of slow because I didn't know anything about playing the piano and in I was a bit afraid that I might just give up after a few weeks since I do have a tendency to sometimes not finish the things I start; when picking up a new skill, trying to lose weight etc. I start of being very motivated the first week but by the second or third week I lose my discIpline and slowly do less and less of what I intended to do. This book was of great help, taught me everything that I needed to know and very quickly I was able to become very competent at playing the piano and now I spend an hour a day playing around and I absolutely love it. This is my new found passion and I'm super happy to have found this book to help me on my journey.

Knowledgeable book
A useful resource for learning to play the keyboard and piano. It provides you with a thorough understanding of the piano's various notes and keys. Additionally, I value the chapter that provides facts to assist you in making a keyboard purchase decision. I found the chapter on reading sheet music to be very helpful. Because sheet music has its own language, it was really helpful to have clear instructions on how to read it. This book, in my opinion, has prepared someone just beginning their playing career for the early phases of success!

Perfect for beginners!
I’ve always wanted to learn the piano, but I didn’t know where to start. This book made the whole process feel less scary and a lot more fun. The steps are clear, and I liked how it didn’t assume I already knew anything. It walks you through the basics like notes, rhythms, and finger exercises without rushing. I also appreciated how it mixed music theory with hands-on practice. Learning to read sheet music felt doable for the first time. The way the author explains things is simple and friendly. It feels like someone is sitting next to you, guiding you along without pressure. I also loved playing pieces like “Ode to Joy” and “Minuet in G”. They made me feel like I was really making progress. This book helped me not only learn how to play but also understand the music better. It’s perfect for beginners like me who want to learn the right way.

Piano for beginners is a stretch
Lessons are too short for novice beginner. Video links of each chapter would be very helpful. With patience the book should work as promised.
