Canes will work, but I find myself stooping over while walking. Not so with a staff. Getting out of a chair a staff seems to offer more leverage. Another plus. I use my staff for daily sojourns out and about. I also like to fish, and many times to paths to fishing spots or the process or getting into the boat are filled with obstacles. The staff removes them. As you can tell, I got the 60-"er. It flexes a bit, but it doesn't weigh 25 pounds, either. I'm 270 and I am not worried about it breaking in the least.
