Since this requires your 24-Pin ATX connector you'll need to get power for your PWM pump from something other than the motherboard. Any Molex or SATA to fan adapter cable should work.

Does this item have a resistor inside it or is it literally just a wire connecting the 2 pins?

Granted it is pretty much a wire connecting the two but this is way safer because it covers up all the other pins. It’s all one plug. A nice cheap product to keep on hand.
