Dear Customer, No, this monitor doesn't works with macbook air (early 2015).

No, it doesn't have vesa mounting.

Q: Is usb-c port compatible with dp alt mode?

Yes one of the usb c ports works as dp alt. The monitor has no battery. So when you do not plug the monitor to a wall port with the other usb c port for charging it with power it self from the computer or phone. Doesnt draw to much power tho my phone runs it pretty steady without draining to much battery.

Q: is there a way to control the brightness? that control is gray & inaccessible.

Dear Sir, You can try to go into the "menu" on the monitor, then to find " Picture" option, then enter to find "Brightness " option and click it to adjust the brightness via "+" and "-" button on the monitor.
