Holy Macro! Books Master Your Data with Excel and Power BI: Leveraging Power Query to Get & Transform Your Task Flow

What to say… first edition was amazing, second even better. For everyone that are into Excel, Data, this is must have!!!!

I have been trying to learn Power Query through trial-and-error using various YouTube videos and eventually realized that I needed a more structured introduction to this incredibly powerful tool. In addition, I inherited a rather complex query at work that I needed to update and wasn't sure how to go about it. I had bought this book a few months ago and used it sparingly to troubleshoot one-off issues here and there. I finally decided to start from the beginning of the book, download the sample files and work my way through it methodically. It is 100% worth doing it this way, as I have learned so much just in the first three chapters - not all of it totally new to me, but presented in such a thoughtful, organized manner that it has already allowed me to make the updates to my inherited Query. I can use google searches for many things in Excel--especially around figuring out some new formula tricks--but for a powerful, complex tool such as Power Query, this book is an incredible resource and I find I am getting a much better understanding by taking the time to work through the chapters and examples - a very worthwhile investment of my time.

I had a specific problem to resolve at work, which required quite a lot of work each month creating the reports. Although I had looked at PQ before, my confidence was pretty low using this tool beyond the basics, but this book, has taken me from my shaky novice start to a confident user of this tool. I am only around 50% through this book, but so far have enjoyed the style of writing and generous amount of screenshots and test data to test my understanding, but cannot comment on M-language as I have not reached that point i the book yet. This may sound unusual for people who know me, as I often dip & dive to relevant sections as and when I need to, but honestly I find this book teaches me at a pace that I am confident with and so resist the urge to peek ahead. If you want to quickly get up to scratch to confidently use PQ, I would definitely recommend adding this book to your library, you will not regret it and hey may impress your managers like I have.

Libro valioso para todos que como yo, siendo ‘data worker’, quieren hacer la transición desde formulación avanzada en Excel al siguiente paso de modelización en DAX, y para eso, el paso intermedio obligatorio es empezar a dominar Power Query. Este libro asienta los primeros pasos para entender Power Query.

En fait, la préparation des données est extrêmement importante pour avoir un modèle de données performant. En général, l’accent est uniquement mis sur DAX mais Power Query est à maîtriser obligatoirement et ce livre en expose les concepts de façon simple et claire. Power Query s’utilise dans Excel, Power BI mais aussi dans SSIS et les dataflows. Une raison suffisante d’apprendre à cet outil. Ce livre est facile à comprendre et très pratique. Il est destiné à tout le monde: de l’analyste business au professionnel de sql. De nombreux exemples et astuces sont fournies. Bien sûr, il faudrait prendre le temps de mettre en pratique ce qui y est exposé. Utiliser des fichiers texte, excel, requêtes sql dynamiques, tables d’un site web, etc. Tous ces cas sont traités. Indispensable pour tout analyste de données.
