Helpful with design and technique
I have a few books on crocheting socks. This one is a great addition. It has some interesting patterns, but also good information about techniques for making socks.

Crocheted Socks
This book is the final answer for those seeking both patterns and instruction for how to crochet a sock. It clearly covers "cuff down" and "toe up" versions of the work. It examines both heeled and heel-less weaves. The examples are charming, the book photography is art. It covers how to size and shape for any foot. You can get one slim book and no longer have to troll the entire internet for patterns or method. No more home-bound notebooks. Most socks are knitted; it's rare (but elegant) to find a crocheted sock. The reader can practice any motif atop a cuff and have a small but engaging project. It's a bargain price for the work involved.

A solid book for introducing many styles of crochet socks
This book covers several methods of how to crochet socks: top down or toe up in combination with heel flap w/gussets, short-row heels, or afterthought heels. They cover basic socks to fancy lace socks, and socks made with yarn from lace to fingering to DK weight. This is like a survey course in socks crocheting methods, and I think that's what I like the most about it.You are learning a bunch of different methods, so you can tell what your favorite way is to make a sock! This book does more than just teach you individual patterns, but introduces you to methods, which enables you to either design your own sock patterns, or to find the ones you'll enjoy crocheting.

Buy used, not worth the "new" price.
This book is... ok. I like the variety of sock styles. However, the photos are less than useful. They might use one photo for the start of the article... and then they reuse exactly the same photo later in the article on that sock. This is silly; they needed to take a photo of a tricky part of the process, or at LEAST another angle of the socks, say, one on feet and another of just the socks, so you can see the whole thing flat out. But no. The same photo is simply printed twice, for most of the socks. I was glad I had bought this book used, and not paid full price.

Crochet Socks Rock!
Awesome patterns! Book was stored somewhere very hot, and pages began falling out as I used the book. Not a real problem for me, though. Took it to an Office Supply store, where they cut off the spine, punched it and put in a spiral binding. I do not consider this a problem with the book, as the patterns are all still usable, and the socks I have made so far look beautiful. I have received many compliments on them, and many requests!

OMG ! I'm almost done with the Witchy Socks
I'm an advanced beginner and the instructions were simple enough that I'm to the cuff on the Witchy Woman socks. It took a couple of unravels to get the end of the rows right with the skipped stitches. They seem to fit fine and should stay up with the elastic crocheted into the cuff as suggested. I bought an E hook so I can try more of the patterns. Happy Crocheting!

Finally a book for crocheted socks!
I have not had time because of the holidays to start a project but scanning the patterns it seems easy to follow for a moderate "crocheter". The styles are a new look and I am looking forward to finishing my first crocheted pair.

Difficult to imagine these patterns in my yarn
I will admit to not yet having made any of the socks in this book. Two things have put me off:Firstly, nearly all the patterns are photographed crocheted in speckly multicoloured yarn. So, you can't see the stitch pattern, you can't see if it's a bit open and lacy or quite solid and textured. Which means it's very hard to know whether the design will work with the yarn you happen to have in your stash earmarked for "socks: need suitable pattern", or to know if, as you're making it, it's coming out as it should.Secondly, with one exception, these really do not look like they would stay up. Most have no or limited cuffs - or the cuff is in a non-stretchy stitch pattern. My previous crocheting-sock experience led me to know that this is crucial - crochet stretches in a different (and more limited) way to knitting, and the cuff needs to be stretchy enough to get your foot in, and deep enough to hold the sock up. There are only a few crochet stitches that achieve this - slip stitch worked vertically, blo double crochet worked vertically, or fptr/bptr worked horizontally. All notably lacking from these patterns, with the exception of the one slip-stitch sock. And this is quite a lot to pay for a single sock pattern.

Pages falling out
Recently received the book and started my first pair from one of the patterns. Good pattern but the pages of the book are already falling out/apart!
