Born around 1254 into a wealthy Venetian merchant family, at the age of 17 he embarked on an epic journey to Asia and was one of the first westerners to visit China. When he returned he recorded his extensive travels by publishing a book which introduced Europeans to Central Asia and China, possibly the first 'travel guide' ever published! Unwieldly and over complicated
Bought this for a planned Baltic road trip in the late summer. Thank goodness we have booked a hire car with GPS as this map will probably not be used. It is too large, overly complicated and not that clear. The cross referencing isn't very good or useful either. It is trying to do too much for too many (multiple languages) and none of it very well.We might just cut it up so as to have only the actual Baltic countries, removing the the swathes of Russia, southern Scandinavia and Belarus which might make it more manageable and useful as an emergency reference. We will probably take the booklet with town and city plans too, though I suspect local tourist offices will be able to supply similar or better maps.
