Best (and most cost-effective) device in its class.
This is a review of The Piper (a.k.a. The Breather) RMT (Respiratory Muscle Trainer).Firstly, most of the devices on Amazon that are called Spirometers, are really RMTs. Some might be classed as Incentive Spirometers. But a true spirometer is an instrument for quantifying many breath parameters and diagnosing lung disorders. They measure air flow, lung capacity, tidal volume, graphed loop shape, and numerous other parameters. The Piper (and the things called Incentive Spirometers), are RMTs -- essentially lung muscle exercisers. The Piper beats its competitors in several ways.(1) It exercises *both* inhalation and exhalation muscles, important for increasing lung function. The others that I have looked at only exercise one direction or the other.(2) It has adjustable resistance. It even has separate, independent adjustments for inhalation and exhalation.(3) At $20, it is a steal -- significantly less expensive than the competing devices. The instructions recommend starting both resistances at the lowest setting (#1 and #1), and increasing the resistance every couple of weeks. I personally found the lowest settings to be a little too easy for me, so I am experimenting to find my optimal starting point.RMTs are used by persons with medical, breathing difficulty conditions, by musicians and vocalists who need maximum lung power and out-breath duration, and by athletes, who need extra oxygen intake for optimum performance.I heartily recommend The Piper. If you do some web research on The Breather, you will find additional resources about using this device. There is also a free Breather Coach phone app, but the latest release is reviewed as being a too buggy to use (but there may be future fixes).

Easy to use even for my grandmother
Recently purchase this little gadget to help my grandmother practice breathing in and out in her recovery process. I didn't like the breathing tool the hospital gave her as it is clunky and cumbersome to work with. This product is small enough for her to hold with one hand and easy enough to use the dials. Recommend it for others to try it out.

Great for breathing training!
Easy to adjust the resistance for both inhale and exhale. They can be on different settings in case either inhale/exhale is not as strong as the other.Forces diaphragm to work and cuts out accessory muscle compensatory pattern if performed correctly. If you ride the inhale as long as necessary allows for good lower (and full) rib expansion as well as full exhale (getting all air back out).Highly recommend for all people not just those with respiratory disease, illness or neuromuscular diseases. Many people compensate with accessory muscles never getting full gas exchange at bottom most alveoli setting them up for illness later. Learning how to use this combined with meditation can lend towards a great self care plan for the healthy, sick and chronic illness. This does require a lot of strength so for those NMD that struggle with respiratory muscle weakness-can be good, but also may be too difficult even at lowest setting depending on progression of the disease and fatigue. Otherwise, highly recommend for all! Happy breathing to better health!

Very practical and simple to use!
I’m a doctor of physical therapy and I’ve always had difficulty getting my patients to breath properly. Breathing correctly is so crucial for fast recovery from any type of injury or surgery. This product is a no brainer for those who can’t use the traditional incentive spirometer. Love it!

Helped me get through bronchitis.
This product is easy to use & helped me to strengthen my lung power. It made breathing easier! I used it for two months while I was healing from Chronic Bronchitis. I was on my nebulizer & inhalers, yet the excercises helped, too!

Works as advertised
This has helped me strengthen my lung capacity as I tended to not breathe deeply otherwise

Piper lung exerciser.
I found the instructions were simple to follow, and it have tried it out. I purchased two, so my husband and I have been using one. I won’t be able to tell you if they are doing anything since we just started using them.

Lung exercise
The media could not be loaded. This product had no written instructions. With my medical back ground I knew how to use. Dials on side could be difficult for some to turn. I do like the size and choice of mouth pieces. I like the resistance choices. Easy to clean. I have been using for 3 days and I can feel improvement in my breathing.
