Great but sad story
This book is very well written, with a fantastic plot full of twists and turns. Every piece of a puzzle is disclosed slowly, and a reader discovers along with Josie that there is more behind her situation that she had previously believed. The characters are complex and interesting, but some of them are not what they seem. The author is very good at writing disturbed personalities, there is a mentally ill serial killer, a sadist, a ruthless hitman and a few more twisted characters.I enjoyed a mix of paranormal and science fiction elements, with time travel, whispers of dead people and empathic abilities. The gripping and suspenseful atmosphere kept me on the edge of my seat, and I really felt Josie's turmoil and fears. I was hoping for a HEA for her, but it was not meant to happen. The book finished with a cliffhanger.Highly recommended.

One of my top Lizzy books!
This is one of my favorite Lizzy books to date. And given how many I've read and loved, that is saying a lot. The story build up was excellent, and then I get to the end and want to cry, and smack Carter. It was a definite WTH moment for me. I knew to expect that things were not going to end well since this is the first book, but damn, not at all what I was expecting. While on vacation with her aunt and uncle in Tombstone, Josie meets Carter after completing a survey about going back in time to change history. Feeling an immediate connection to him, over a few drinks at the bar, she agrees to go back to 1842 to halt a massacre. Of course she's drunk and doesn't really believe he can send her back in time, so when she finds herself waking up in a crater outside of town with no idea how she got there, she starts to realize that she may have been a tad hasty in agreeing to his scheme. But Carter planned for everything. At least as much as someone from the future can plan. Josie just needed to find two men and get them to not start a war. Easy, right? She doesn't count on coming to care for the people around her, nor the fact that she doesn't have a clue on how to get them to NOT start a war. Admitting she should have asked Carter a lot more questions, and the fact that there is a lot more going on than she knows, Josie's time in the past is not at all what she expected. A woman in 1842 has very little rights, no modern conveniences like toilets, and death all around her, she'll have to be careful if she wants to return to her own time. The mystery around the disappearances, the fact that she had no idea what was going on around her and who all the players were, her ambivalence about who to trust and how much to share, and her emotional connection to the flawed people around her was so well written, it was very easy to get caught up in her adventure. I loved every moment of this book up until the end. Because by the end, I'd come to really like Taylor and just couldn't fathom why he was targeted by Carter. So Lizzy, you better have a damned good reason for this by the end of the series!Would I recommend this book? Hell yes. If you like time travel books, mysteries, books about the old west, etc. then this will be one you'll want to add to your TBR list.

West is a great book, but with one flaw
West is a great book, but with one flaw: her reaction to being sent back in time. I love the characters, I love the mysery, and I also love the ending (except I am sad about what happens to the main character's love interest). The concept of the story is fantastic. The question of whether or not you'd go back in time to change things has been thrown around with two opposing sides: for it and against it. I like seeing that there are two sides that kind of run things and I'm interested in finding out more about them and their role in history. I believed everything in this book except Josie ' s initial reaction to being sent back in time. I understand her playing along and not yelling out that she was from the future, but it would make sense for her to freak out about it more. And why would she be so trustingof Carter? He got her into this mess and her whole world has changed. I hope this issue may be resolved in the next book. I am very happy with the cliffhanger ending and love that she has jumped time again. As with many of Ford's books, there were plenty of typos that still need to be addressed by a skilled editor. But I am satisfied with the story and the plot.

AWESOMENESS a Must READ.
A trip to Tombstone, a $50.00 questionaire, a handsome dashing Carter, the willingness to go back in time and make a difference, and 8 beers later, Josie Jackson finds herself back in time. This was no accident. Josie was hand picked and not the first to have been made this offer. The question is will she be the one to succede. The year is Sept 24th 1862 when she awakens (WEST) of no where. There were only 6 rules she had to follow to change history and the Death of Millions of Native American Indians. Thus her journey begins. With other traverlers like her, hard to trust anyone, trying to blend in and find the solution to her mission, things were deffenitly going to be interesting, with betrayal, complications and danger, Josie must set out to make things right.A modern day time travel, with a Dr. Who twist, Lizzy Ford brings us a beautiful yet sad adventure, that will take you on a journey back into a past long forgotten. This is one of the best time travel books I have read, there is so much more to this story than meets the eye, lots of twists, and truths unraveled, that it will have you turning the pages with the wonder of what will happen next.

Fantastic. At first I was thinking hmm
Fantastic. At first I was thinking hmm. I'm not so sure about this book. But a few pages in, I was hooked. This book was great until the end. The characters were well rounded and all had interesting stories; Josie, Carter, Taylor, Running Bear, Fighting Badger, and John. I liked the mystery of the book, the history of the west, and how we would act like if we were to go back in time. I'm still wondering about what Carter is up to and if he is good or bad. If you haven't read East yet, you better, that one is just as good if not better. Read this book, you will not be disappointed. Way to go Lizzie another GREAT book written by you. I haven't read one I don't like. I'm just waiting on the next book in all your series.

Wild West time travel adventure
Wow! When Lizzy said this wasn't a happily ever after I wasn't sure if it was going to deliver on the 'romance' genre, but boy was I wrong!!Josie is a normal girl orphaned when she was very young and raised by her Aunt and Uncle, although she obviously longs for the love of a parent. So when she is thrust back in time to 'save a million people from a massacre' and finds herself in the home of a man who thinks she is the 'apple of his eye' daughter, she finds herself caring for man she calls 'father'. It is easy to feel how she yearns to be a part of this time, even with the danger lurking around every corner.Carter, the man who sent her back, seems to always be hiding something dangerous from her, and Taylor....well, yum, even if she can't figure out all of his secrets. Then there are the characters that you love to hate or know too much. This book was action and adventure all the way, with twists and turns until the very end. And while not the traditional happily ever after it definitely did deliver on the romance. Thanks again Lizzy!
