Most off the shelf tape measures in local hardware stores only go to 8 meters or less, and if you're working with measurements given in the metric system, this reduces an additional opportunity for errors. Conversion tables aren't difficult to use and are easily available on line, but it's nice to just work with the specifications as given. The only downside to this (like many other longer tape measures,) it has a square loop on the end rather than a hook. It is also geared to crank the tape back in rapidly, rather than having the crank directly on the axle.
