Curious Creatures: A Coloring Book Adventure (A Millie Marotta Adult Coloring Book) [Marotta, Millie] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Curious Creatures: A Coloring Book Adventure (A Millie Marotta Adult Coloring Book) Review: 86 pages of interesting animal designs – printed both sides of the page - I own all of Millie Marotta's previous animal theme coloring books: “Animal Kingdom”, “Tropical World” and “Wild Savannah”. In “Curious Creatures” Ms. Marotta has taken on more unusual animals from around the world. She states that some where chosen for their bizarre behavior while others for their unusual appearance and others still for their survival skills. At the end of the book, there is a listing of the animals (in page order) with both their common name and their Latin name. The designs are detailed without being intricate. The illustrations are beautifully done. There are a number of designs that cross over the binding and, in my copy, they line up well but it is difficult to get into the binding area to color. The book is in the larger square format at 9 7/8 x 9 7/8 x .5 inches as are the other books in Ms. Marotta's series. The book cover is very pretty. It has touches of color and gold foil on the front of the cover. You could certainly color the remainder of the design if you so choose. The inside of the covers are plain white and slightly rough This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing it with my coloring medium: Designs are printed on both sides of the page Some designs merge into the binding and some spread across the binding for a two-page design. Paper is white, heavyweight, slight rough and non-perforated. Glue bound Alcohol-based markers bleed through the paper easily. Water-based markers, India ink pens and gel pens leave extremely light shadows on the back of the page. My coloring pencils did the best of the various medium. They went on well and blended well. I tested both oil and wax based pencils and could layer and blend easily using a blender stick. Review: Tranquility in the Palm of Your Hand! - I just love Millie Marotta's artwork! She has an unique style that sets her apart from others. Curious Creatures, the latest in her series of animal adventure coloring books, is a very pleasant journey with unique travel partners such as the devil lionfish and the duck-billed platypus. I love how Ms. Marotta uses various botanicals to fill in the outlines of each creature in such a graceful way. It creates a peaceful setting that draws you in and relaxes you before you even begin coloring. Just thumbing through the book is therapy in and of itself. In this book, Ms. Marotta has included opportunities for you, the colorist, to create your own versions of various creatures. For example, the jewel beetle is pictured on the left side of the book with a copy on the right side. However, the copy is not exactly the same! It has part of the lines removed thereby allowing the colorist to add their own designs -- or not! One feature that Curious Creatures has that her previous books do not is a list of the common and scientific names of each animal in order of appearance. This is very helpful in finding reference photos for those who prefer a more natural look to their pictures. There is also a couple of blank pages in the back with the invitation to draw your own curious creatures. While the pages are printed front and back, the paper is a heavy, white paper of high quality. As I have not tried coloring with markers or gel pens in this book, I do not know whether they would bleed through or not. I am assuming that there may be some bleed through if you used a heavy hand. Overall, this is another knockout product by Millie Marotta. (I have included a picture of one of my WIPs based on an actual photograph of the devil's lionfish found on Google Images.)

Curious Creatures in Page After Wonderful Page
This is a beautifully rendered book with such a variety of animals, that it makes me dizzy with anticipation! Millie Marotta has outdone herself. The illustrations are printed on both sides of the page. The paper is sturdy; not as heavy as cardstock but heavier than book paper. I believe this will lend itself to colored pencils the best. I can see using watercolors but I think it will warp this weight of paper. I love that there is a list of each creature and their scientific names. I like to look up photographs of the animals to see their natural coloring. That doesn't mean I stick to that! I can plan on getting fanciful with the coloring, depending on my mood! Another cool thing is the artist has her own website where you can upload your own pages after you've colored them! Some are gentle colors, some are bold and some are very realistic. I look forward to sharing one of mine. I highly recommend Curious Creatures to anyone who finds coloring relaxing. Also to persons who like intricate careful renderings and those who love animals. This book opens your imagination to the sea and far off lands. Happy coloring!

Unique animals, fun to color!
Awesome coloring book, very unique animals! Only complaint is that they have full page pictures (the back on the previous page plus the next to make 1 big picture) so the crease prevents you from being on a flat surface. I wish it was in a spiral notebook style... but I still love it.

Great coloring book with beautiful pictures
Bought this for my daughter and she loves it. The pictures are amazing and she loves that the animal names are listed in the back.

Beautiful and clean artwork
Beautiful and clean artwork. The paper quality is pretty decent, on the smoother side. I normally color with color pencil so double sided coloring books and their paper quality isn't so important as it would be for those who prefer wet mediums. (2018 edit) I found that this paper does not take to wet mediums at all, paper wears down and color bleeds.

Its in the details
This book is very detailed without it being extravagantly intricate. The details have a simplicity to them that I think this book would be a great challenge for someone to color, and not so challenging that its not fun. I love Millie Marotta's coloring books: They are filled with creatures in which she brings a different element to them. They aren't just basic animals but they are detailed animals with character to them. This will definitely get the creative juices flowing.

Millie Marotta como siempre ha creado un libro excepcional, lleno de criaturas perfectas. Los datos de cada animal al final del libro me pareció formidable. El papel del libro es excelente para colorear.
