Is there a way to turn the display all the way off without unplugging it? I like my bedroom completely dark

No but you can dim the lighting by pressing button on the side.

Can this clock run without being plugged in?? The battery won't work.

The digital alarm clock needs to be connected to a USB power supply to display. A separate battery can only save the alarm clock data, and the display does not light up.

The clock goes into a dim mode during the day and you might think it's off , you can fix that by pushing the buttons on the side to have it on bright
