An ok read with some twists which weren't that twisty.
This is the story of Laura and her daughter Tilly. Laura's husband, Gavan died on his working site leaving mother daughter with lots of problems. They broke apart with Gavan's brother's family. A member of local community, Saffron told Laura that she with the help of Alex can help them. Laura went there and then sinister things started. This community isn't what it says it is.Will Laura and Tilly be able to leave this place alive?Read this book to know more.I personally think that it's length makes it boring a little bit. At sometimes I don't understand that why the scene is written with so much clarity. Sometimes that clarity amazed me.Narration of the story is good and simple.Characters are good including Laura, Saffron, Tilly, Alex and Gavan. Other characters are ok for me.I think you can read it if you like this author's books. Although its story is simple but scene explanation is good. It could be made more crisp with some editing.

Unbelievable pap
I have rarely read such a poorly-written and melodramatically-compiled concoction of beyond-unlikely 'coincidences'. Pure pants. Much worse than her previous offerings, which were hardly literature.

Brilliant!
ONCE YOU’RE IN, THEY’LL NEVER LET YOU LEAVE.Laura is grieving after the sudden death of her husband. Struggling to cope emotionally and financially, Laura is grateful when a local community, Oak Leaf Organics, offer her and her 17-year-old daughter Tilly a home. But as Laura and Tilly settle into life with their new ‘family’, sinister things begin to happen. When one of the community dies in suspicious circumstances Laura wants to leave but Tilly, enthralled by the charismatic leader, Alex, refuses to go. Desperately searching for a way to save her daughter, Laura uncovers a horrifying secret but Alex and his family aren’t the only ones with something to hide. Just as Laura has been digging into their past, they’ve been digging into hers and she discovers the terrifying reason they invited her and Tilly in, and why they’ll never let them leave…I've read and loved every one of Louise Jensen's books and this one was no exception. I'm always in awe of how this author takes a plot and turns it into the work of art that is presented to us readers at the end. Her ability to draw the reader in, make them think that they've got it all worked out and then turn it on its head is pure genius. This one is told from the perspectives of the three main characters; Laura, Tilly & Alex and depicts what can happen when people keep things secret from those they love, I loved the mother-daughter relationship between Laura & Tilly and how that began to break down when Alex was brought into the equation, they were both so taken in by him and the promise that he could help them. It's a tragedy how gullible some people can be when they are desperate. If you like a tense, edge of your seat thriller then this one is for you, I highly recommend it.

Disappointing
After reading some of the reviews for this psychological thriller, I started the book with high expectations. The first impressions were good. The story was told through the eyes of the three main characters, Laura, her daughter, Tilly, and Alex, who ran the community. They took it in turns to present their version of the events that unfolded. The emotional states of the characters were particularly well portrayed, and the unresolved problems each one had helped to create the suspense needed for this type of story. But despite the good writing, I never fully engaged or connected with these characters. I’m not sure why because they were realistic enough. Maybe their many secrets and past tragedies, which were hinted at regularly, got in the way, slowing the pace of the story. When the pace finally picked up towards the end, many of the twists and surprises felt more like convenient coincidences.I wanted to like the story, but finished it feeling disappointed. The slow pace meant it never really got going for me. I never felt uneasy or threatened because I didn’t connect with the three viewpoint characters. And the revelations that explained the characters’ problems felt contrived, taking the edge off any surprises.

An excellent, entertaining read.
This is the story of Laura, whose husband, Gavan, has died suddenly leaving her and their daughter,Tilly, grieving and confused. Gavan stood accused of building houses on polluted land, which has led to a local girl becoming really ill and Laura and Tilly have been ostracised by their town because of this. Laura also has money worries and is on the brink of losing her house and her business, a florist's shop, which she has had for many years.Laura is in the shop one day and has a seizure, and is helped by a member of a local community, Saffron, who tells Laura that the leader, Alex, should be able to help her with her money problems.Laura and Tilly go to stay with the little community, but then sinister things start happening and Laura becomes increasingly frightened for her and her daughter's safety. Tilly meanwhile is falling for the group's leader, Alex.I really enjoyed this book. I was drawn into the story immediately and it held my attention throughout. As the tension built as the story progressed I genuinely began to feel more and more stressed. The ending revealed twist after twist and I honestly did not see any of them coming.I would highly recommend this book and will definitely be reading more from this author. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book.

Never leave...
Grieving after the sudden death of her husband - and the curious, heartless reactions of her in-laws, Laura is struggling to cope emotionally and financially. With her 17-year-old daughter Tilly, she takes up an invitation from a local community group, Oak Leaf Organics, to move to their commune. But once settled in with their new ‘family’, things take a sinister turn and after one of the community dies in suspicious circumstances Laura wants to leave but Tilly, enthralled by the charismatic leader, Alex, refuses to go. Soon Laura uncovers a horrifying secret and then realises they’ve been digging into her past, discovering the terrifying reason they invited her and Tilly in, and why they’ll never let them leave…Beautifully constructed, this is a deceptively simple story though once the house of cards begins to crumble, you see how much work has gone into making the sleek plot sing. Told from Laura and Tilly’s points of view (with occasional others for good measure), this presents well realised characters, in a nicely detailed location (most of it takes place at the farm/commune) and a plot that twists and turns, stumping this reader several times in the last quarter. Great pace, well written and frighteningly real, this is a terrific read and I’d highly recommend it.
