What a great tool and comes in handy in an accident involving fire sprinkler head. Well made.

This is a must-have if you have ever worked on ceilings or drop ceilings with active sprinklers. You will probably never need it, but you will be more confident knowing you have one.

Much in the line of a Shutgun tool. WHILE THE WATER IS SPRAYING FOM A HEAD. It does not seem safe, reasonable or practical to ask a worker to find the tool, grab a ladder that is now wet to climb on, or "hey" go get my rain coat, wiggle the tool that no one has ever used into place and shut the pressurized flow off. Not a wise decision by people that have never tested it themselves in a truly real life situation with 9 to 10 ft. ceilings. The SAFE method is to shut the sprinkler supply line valve off, put a bucket or large trash can under the trickling head. Listen, the water damage is already done and rushing into a wet and slippery situation on a ladder is just an OSHA violation waiting to happen and a get person injured for absolutely no reason. Cool gadget with no safe method for real world use.

If you live in an apartment it's important to understand the fire sprinkler system is NOT connected to the normal water shut off valve. The shut off is generally in a locked location -sometimes multiple locations- and if you live in a place without on-site maintenance or management the fire department may not be able to shut off the water until maintenance arrives 20-30 minutes later with a key. That's about 500-1000+ gallons filling your place and if you live above anybody their place will probably be destroyed as well. On the other hand if you're home, have this tool and respond quickly you can probably limit the water damage to around 10-30 gallons. One is a minor clean up with some localized damages and the other is total devastation. I truly hope I never have to use it but this tool seems like it will be invaluable in avoiding thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars in damages to my personal belongings. I'm a collector and so every second counts in getting the fire sprinkler stopped quickly as possible in the case of false activation (equipment failure or bumped) or once any fire has been extinguished. No one wants to see their cherished belongings destroyed even if they have full value insurance covering it all. It never hurts to be prepared and I highly recommend this tool to anyone who values their belongings and has fire sprinklers in their home. People don't like paying for preventative tools but are always happy to have them in a crisis. Docked one star because the price is a tad high and the build quality of the tool doesn't seem to justify the cost. The rivet on the quick release (red part) isn't sitting flush on mine and the main handle is a bit more wobbly than I assumed it would be. Definitely going to contact the company who makes it and ask them if this is normal and safe to use. I'll update the review after I get a response. Also worth noting it's pretty lightweight which makes sense if it's going to be hanging off a sprinkler or a tool belt. I'd like to end this review by personally thanking the inventor of this tool for giving me extra peace of mind now that I know what I know about fire sprinkler systems and the damage they can cause. I would have been an anxious wreck if this thing didn't exist.

These are just glorified Vise Grips...ingenious, wished I had thought of it. But, this is one of those tools that you may use once, if you can find it. A "just in case" tool, not unlike a fire extinguisher. But, from a practical standpoint the Quickstop is just about useless for my occupation. As a general contractor I have found the need for a fire extinguisher on a couple of occasions to stop a fire but never found the need to stop a fire sprinkler. Now, that's not to say that I might not need to stop a sprinkler in the future. But, if you are regularly knocking off sprinkler heads then you apparently have another problem that the Quickstop can't fix :) . However, I was required to buy one of these as a contingent for building out a TI in a major shopping center. Nevertheless, small "Cool" tools like this tend to go missing on a job site if not properly secured. But [when properly secured] it may not be easily accessible when it comes time to use it. If you are a GC you will understand the conundrum with this tool. I have decided to carry it in my job bag and haven't had the need for it but it does seem like it would do the job. Of course, I gotta be there for it to work. For this tool to be truly practical, every trade (tradesman) that works around sprinkler heads should have one on-site but at ~$90 ea. for a "just in case tool" and easily "misplaced" that requirement isn't necessarily practical either. Fire extinguishers are a "just in case tool" with alot more science and engineering behind them but are a hell of a lot cheaper and don't usually go missing. This tool becomes alot more practical at a much lower price point.

You need one of these if your home has a fire sprinkler system. I hope to never use it but in the event one of the sprinkler heads leaks, I will be able to minimize any water damage. It feels solid and the parts appear to be excellent quality.
