My favorite pen so far (broad nib)
Had this pen a few months and it has yet to disappoint. It's a juicy smooth nib, a comfy body that my fingers love, and I love this yellow. Most importantly, it handles my fave shimmer ink (De Atramentis Pearlescent Whisky Brown Bronze) like a boss. (Can't say the same for my Twsbi Go. Sigh.) I'm doubly impressed because I've been a EF and F nib gal my whole adult life, but shimmer inks made me try B nibsโand the Lamy Safari has made me a definite convert.Loev this pen! Such a joy to use. Highly recommend.

Wonderful pen
This review is of the Lamy Safari Fountain Pen with broad nib. (happens to be yellow, but that is sort of irrelevant) (L18B)I use this pen with the Lamy Z24 converter.Wonderful things about this pen:* It writes nice broad lines fast, and never skips. I teach in a large lecture hall, using document cameras to project onto large screens. It is nice to have a pen that writes this way.* It is comfortable to hold.* It never dries out. I have gotten in the habit of checking my fountain pens before each class, because many of them dry out overnight and have to be dipped into water to get the ink to flow again. The Lamy is never dry when I check it. Even after a few days or even weeks, it still writes.* The little window that lets you see a bit of the ink level is very nice. (Although with a broad nib, this pen goes through ink very quickly. Because it is my favorite pen and I don't want to have to switch to a backup pen during class if it runs out of ink, I end up refilling it before each class.)* The Lamy Z24 convertor fits in with a bit of a click. Very secure.* The nib comes out easily for cleaning and goes back in without a fuss. I don't do that very often--maybe once a month--because the pen does well without it.* The barrel and cap fit securely, also without a fuss.

The best entry level product!
I own about four Lamy Safari pens. I will try to summarize the pros and cons of this pen assuming that you are new to this pen and fountain pens in general.Pros:Extremely durable pen. There is a variety of nib choices available and it is extremely easy to swap nibs (there are many internet tutorials on this), so if you buy one pen you can try many different nib combinations at ease. The nibs on these pens can also be swapped with Lamy Vista and Lamy Joy pens. That is cool!Reasonably stylish without distracting bling (personal opinion).Extremely reasonably priced for a fountain pen.Lamy now offers multiple color choices too!Cons:Lamy doesn't include converters/ cartridges in the packaging. So the pen doesn't write out of the box. That is lame! The Lamy nibs are extremely nice but I find Pilot fountain pen nibs (at same price level) more responsive to pressure variations. This is a personal opinion. The difference between a EF nib and a F nib might be little blurry! All in all, this is a great pen. If you are looking for cheap reliable fountain pen that will last or a lifetime go ahead and order one.

Would have been an excellent purchase if it had not arrived dirty
I love the Lamy Safari fountain pen, I love them so much this is my 4th Lamy Safari. The pen writes super smooth no skipping as soon as I popped in the ink cartridge the pen was seconds later writing. I always have to fountain pens so this was a miracle -- a stationery miracle ;)So why 4 stars and not 5? The pen is awesome love the bright yellow, it came packaged great, and it even came with a blue ink cartridge (winning) but the pen arrived all gunky with black glue like bits all over it. Now I have to clean the pen and not scratch it. I kinda feel like I got someone else' returned pen :/

smooth writer
This was the first Lamy pen I bought, since then I have bought 3 more. There probably isn't a better fountain pen for beginners, the substantial body size and lightness makes it easy to write with or without the cap on. It has grooves on the front section for an easy writing grip. The broad nib is an ink hog but writes wet and never skips with any of the inks I have used: Noodlers, Pilot, Waterman, Lamy (bottled). I have the z24 converter in each of my Lamys, and have spare nibs in different sizes that I change by laying the pen on a desk, nib turned over so you can see the feed, and pressing down on the nib with the cap, pulling the pen body back releasing the nib. Then you just insert the new nib and ink the pen. A great pen especially for the price.

Not a fan of broad nibs
I tried a broad nib to use with shimmer inks. I donโt like the flow and replaced the nib with a medium. Lamy makes a good entry level pen (I have others). I liked the color - true crayola yellow.

Another Safari, Another Color!
Safaris are like a certain brand of US Potato Chips: You can't have just 1! I have them in several colors and recently picked up this one in Yellow. These Pens write well out of the box, but even better if you flush it and let it dry overnight first. Lamy's Bold Nib can get quite big, and if I had 1 change to make I'd have gone with Medium on this one. But one of the big advantages of Lamy is that you can change out the NIbs. So just buy what you want and use it with any Safari you want!

Smoother to write than previous Lamy purchases; best yet!
Two other Lamy Safaris are currently in use but each with a medium nib which matches most other fountain pens previously used, although an all-time favourite was fitted with a broad nib, a replacement for a damaged medium which was then not available. Later, the pen was stolen from my desk. The other two Safaris were bought in black and blue to match the ink colours to be used within them (official documents require black ink) and you could use a fluorescent yellow highlighter ink in this, the broader nib better suiting that purpose, although it may never be a personal need. Both pens worked immediately out of the box and were writing smoothly almost immediately, one requiring a minor amount of nib priming to help the ink flow down to the nib point. This worked immediately out of the box, and is actually far smoother in its writing than those with the medium nibs.As a consequence of the writing of this pen, it was later decided to add a couple of others to substitute for the medium versions first purchased. Both are about a point less broad than this, slightly less smooth and probably random deviations from standard.A previous reviewer believes his to be a fake due to its lack of smoothnes and some questionable 'facts' which none of the three pens purchased actually support - namely the presence of some text within the cardboard spacer ring. In any event why would anyone fake something that retails for so little when the same effort and could possibly fake an expensive model with greater profit potential. This pen is less bright than it appears on-screen but it will immediately stand out from an assortment of writing implements within a desk tidy, should one be used.

Nice to have a broad nib straight off
Nice to have a broad nib straight off. It's a little scratchy, but what do you expect for the money? A great colour means it's easy to find and harder for other people to appropriate.

Yep, It's a Lamy, Like the Yellow and Like the Bold
I own too many of these pens. I like all of mine. Will write forever. Different nibs for different times. I have all the different nib sizes. Bold is one of my favourites because it is a very wet "inky" writer. Not for fine script or paper that bleeds.but everyday paper is just fine.
