Software = good. Payroll = so-so
Quickbooks itself is a great small business accounting program. The payroll side is beyond frustrating. I bought this from Amazon with "one year of payroll subscription and 1 employee included" however Quickbooks insists on charging me for my 1 employee at $2.00 per month. Spent 35 minutes on the phone with "Customer Service" who just simply cannot understand why it's not OK to offer a product that includes one employee, but then charges me for that one employee. It's also frustrating to have customer service agents who continually have language barriers with the primary customer base. Yes, I get it - offshore call centers are much less expensive, but dealing with people who do not understand the issue you are trying to explain gets very frustrating. Just be wary of these "hidden fees" when you guy this product.*update* Have now been on the phone for 40 minutes and the agent is still trying to understand what I have been trying to explain for the entire call.

Bought instead of renewing Payroll
Great option to renewing Payroll software. Cheaper and up to date. Intuit needs to get off the single employee option, cheapening the product.

A necessary evil as I use their payroll for myself the only employee; the annual combo software purchase is a bit cheaper than payroll alone online which I don't want to use as don't want my info shared. However, every year I waste 30-45 minutes calling their reps in another country to get the new payroll key installed as it's NOT seamless. This year I held off installing the 17 accounting software because I use Windows 7 on my main desktop since 17 not supported/compatible with W7. My laptop has Windows 10 but I only use it for a backup copy so not sure what I am going to do next year as I love my HP Omni 27 and don't plan on replacing until it because I prefer W7 and HP's new 27 all in one I saw at Costco last week looks/feels like a toy in comparison.

those who hate and despise this company and those that check their ...
I've used Quicken and QuickBooks for over 20 years. I live in a fantasy that some day another company will publish software that can compete. Having had a friend who worked for Intuit I can tell you that there are two types of employees, those who hate and despise this company and those that check their brain at the door, comply with the company's draconian policies and get their paycheck.Intuit puts customer service at the bottom of their priority list and run the company with an obsession to prevent any piracy even if there is no piracy. They continue to make their products with planned obsolescence so they can force consumers to pay for software over and over and release "upgrades" that are full of bugs and mistakes. Customers spend hours after every upgrade trying to continue doing business with crappy software. I have never dealt with a CPA that didn't despise the company but continue to use it for lack of a universally alternative to choose from. If a company comes along that threatens Intuit's market share, Intuit will buy them out.Intuit has a stranglehold on banks and other financial institutions. Intuit continues to raise the barriers of entry to thwart competition. I'm all for a company making money, but when a company comes along that hijacks a customers data and thwarts clients from moving their data to another company, I have to protest.Today I received a fully paid for version of QickBooks Pro 2017 for Windows with Payroll. Rather than printing the License Key and Product Code on a sticker inside the box, they put it on the packaging then place a rub-off panel on top of the data masking the information similar to a "scratch off" lottery ticket. Just a mild mask would do but not with Intuit, their obsession requires an intense amount of scratching which resulted in the underlying data being destroyed. See attached photo.I know I will get a cut and paste answer from someone whose job is to seem like Intuit cares. To them I pose this question: If the scratch off mask works correctly then the data is revealed, right? Then why not just put the key codes inside the box? What purpose does the mask serve? Just proof that the company is obsessed with making the customer jump through whoops rather than making dealing with Intuit a pleasurable experience.UPDATE: 3.26.2017 After waiting on hold I got through to customer support, and was informed that I had to pay $150.00 for them to help me. I was told that everyone who purchases the software has to pay and additional $150.00 for tech support. I told him I would return the product since I have only had the software 1 day and the box says "60 day Money Back Guarantee". He told me I could not return it because I had opened the box. I asked him, "You mean I have to let the box set on the shelf, unopened?" He said yes. I couldn't believe my ears! I'll update again when possible.

What can I say, good product but not cheap by no means.
Good product no bugs, but I gave it two stars because after you spend a lot of money on the software they Ching you with a monthly charge for each employee.

Yearly Payroll Update at Gunpoint
I bought this because it was on sale for $219. I've been using QB pro for a long time, and have always been irritated with their payroll price fixing. I only have 2 employees, and if you don't pay attention QB auto-renews your payroll every year for $399. If you don't update it, it stops working. So I look for these deals and upgrade my entire software and payroll instead of getting raped for just the payroll by Intuit. They should be ashamed of their exstortive business practices. Of there were another product on the market as good as QB, I would but it. Dealing with their outsourced customer service is a treat also.
