Is it any good at doing a medium rare steaks or steaks I’m general?

I like rare steaks and it does them well, but I use an instant read meat thermometer and stop at 55-60degs C. 55 is rare after resting and 60 is medium rare, Otherwise it is just getting the time right so best to check sooner and continue longer if needed as you cannot go back!

Is there one temperature control for both plates or separate

There is no temperature control. You can only switch on the grill and both plates will start heating up together.
