A must have resource for anyone who knows what it's like to feel emotionally overwhelmed!
An outstanding guide for anyone to learn how to work with emotional triggers and regulate the nervous system. The approaches discussed in this book are the basic building blocks one needs to regain calm, perspective, and hope when faced with recurring stressful triggers and our habitual reactions and responses to them. The skills offered are essential for anyone who knows what it's like to feel emotionally overwhelmed! Deirdre Fay's nuggets of wisdom are so digestible and seemingly simple yet have such potency in helping people heal and cope through early attachment wounding and trauma. Her breadth of clinical experience as well as her warmth, supportive nature and generous heart shine through the pages. The book is an invaluable resource for anyone working within the helping or therapy professions. Not only are they immensely useful for clinicians but also for clients to have as a resource between sessions. The skills are empowering, inspire hope and can help remind people that they are ultimately the best change agents for themselves. These are skills that are not only accessible, easy to learn and practice but can offer relief and soothing quite rapidly. Deirdre Fay has offered such a treasure through the wisdom she has shared in this book. Highly recommended reading!!

This Works.
Thank you, Deirdre, for putting together such a helpful book. So many of us, therapists and clients, find it hard to get out of our heads, and into the body. You make it easier and safe to do this important work. What used to take years to accomplish can now done so much more effectively and gently. My clients are benefitting daily from these practical exercises. It's life-changing.

ok-ish
I really wanted to like this book, especially as it came recommended by Janina Fisher who i think is really great. --However, i found myself disappointed. The exercises are rather complicated (even for someone with a professional psychotherapy background). The examples aren't very well chosen either. As others have already pointed out, the book also contains a lot of grammar mistakes and is not well edited in general. This was a turn down for me as it conveys a certain attitude of carelessness. Another worrying thing I found is the money orientation. While the resources are indeed free (as promised in the book), you need to register in order to get access to them. You are then prompted to buy other courses and--when you don't buy them--you are again asked why not.--While people should of course receive money for their work, this kind of pushing people again to me conveys the wrong kind of attitude--one that is at odds with the attitude the book (the author) wants to convey.

Accessible and informative
I have attended Deirdres training and purchased her previous book on attachment and yoga. I am currently studying for a Masters in Trauma Studies and though those studies am aware of a new paradigm around trauma and how to heal.Trauma isn’t always a one off event but can occur because of repeated events either in childhood or as adults. This is the more complex form of PTSD. Trauma can be intergenerational such might be found with children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, or interpersonal violence through generations, it can also be historical such as the trauma experienced by indigenous peoples. Not all trauma can be treated by cognitive change or memory work. For some it appears that the new thinking is that there are other approaches that can heal us and in fact perhaps help us move into Post-traumatic Growth. Deirdre’s book is a valuable tool for trauma survivors and for professionals who work with the traumatised, who want to work with this new paradigm. It is clear, easy to follow and accessible. It informs us of how internal experiences may be driving our outward behaviours and gives us tools to help to bring about changes in our lives.Deirdres approach is one of compassion and understanding. Her work in the yoga field and the trauma field means she has a wider perspective when it comes to healing life’s hurts.
