Blood: A Very Short Introduction

Excellent introduction to blood. I have a reasonable standard of knowledge of the subject, but I found there was much more to know. I particularly enjoyed the historical aspects of the understanding of blood, its composition and, most of all, the enormity of its function in the body and for overall health. I really enjoy these Short Introductions from the OUP and have several on the shelf. Highly recommended.

A great book on this important topic

Reasonable introduction to blood.

I have many of these A Very Short Introduction books. They are perfect for learning a little bit about everything but not so little that you can’t have a conversation about the subject. It’s also nice to have a further reading bibliography so that if the subject really catches your interest, you have the info on where to go. I love the size of the books - they are small enough to fit in a small purse or in a coat pocket.I’m a voracious reader and was an English major. I have a ton of books. These are great editions to my collection.

I've discovered a series "A very short introduction" books very recently, but I am already a big fan of them. So many subjects, such a good writing by specialist in any field. My only beef is that those books are so small and have small print. I guess idea is of a pocket book, well I would prefer a larger format.Book about blood is worth recommending. It is comprehensive yet easy to understand. A perfect scientific book for a mass audience. I knew most of the concepts in this books from other resources, and I still found it interesting. The author has a real gift of explaining science in a simple language. He also provides some diagrams and pictures for those, who prefer to see things. He writes about morphology, physiology and functions of blood. He explains a few most common blood disorders, summarizes history of medical advances in regards to blood, and transfusions. Great book overall.
